Position Overview:

 

Performs set-up of computerized, conventional GTA weld equipment and perform critical tracking of the weld arc over a weld seam. Performs weld operations. May perform manual/hand fill welding through glove ports. Uses mirrors, cameras, weld box controls to continually monitor weld arc for precision and make adjustments as necessary. Must be alert to properly react to equipment malfunctions that may affect the component. Must be able to exercise thorough knowledge of welding principles. Must be able to document data in weld records and logs and follow written and verbal instructions.

 

Location: On-site in Lynchburg, Virginia

 

Your Day to Day as a Welder:

 

  • Using appropriate material handling equipment, obtains necessary support, fixtures, weld wire and work stands for a particular job.
  • Verifies ID of component and obtains proper process document, specification, equipment and instruction through computer work instructions delivery system.
  • Assures correct orientation of components to be welded.
  • Loads components in fixtures and/or weld box carts using supports to places in chamber.
  • Secures all openings to the chamber, checks condition of pumping system and pumps chamber to specified pressure, neutralizes pumps, monitors leak rate with vacuum gage and stopwatch.
  • Back-fills chamber to specified (positive) pressure with specified gas and opens ports for use of gloves.
  • Responsible for the speed rates of table and applicable weld box axes, torch measurement, indexing and wire feed rates.
  • Installs and properly aligns electrode and arc oscillator.
  • Verifies machine motor speeds and program settings to properly initiate arc without tungsten contact with component.
  • Monitors parameters to ensure adequate penetration, fusion and weld configuration.
  • Operates and maintains control of peripheral equipment when required.
  • Assists Q. C. with weld analysis programs (when applicable) and visual inspection.
  • Assists with bi-monthly preventive maintenance. Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • May be required to train and qualify operators in same classification who have less experience on a particular operation.
  • Observes and enforces all safety rules in an effort to reduce accidents and injuries.
  • Operates appropriate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks, in a safe and orderly manner in an effort to reduce accidents and injuries.
  • Understands and complies with applicable company policies (i.e. attendance, Code of Business Conduct & Ethics, Policies and Procedures Handbook, etc.).
  • Complies with all applicable State/Federal laws, regulations, and policies (i.e. OSHA, etc.).
  • Company approved personal protective equipment and apparel must be worn as specified.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and prior welding experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing job experience and training.

 Pay: $$39.91

 

The starting hourly rate for this position in Virginia (US-VA) is expected to be $$39.91 per hour.  The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
