Position Overview:

As our Manufacturing Development Technologist, you will lead and support fuel development and manufacturing operations by interpreting technical requirements, guiding process execution.

 

Location:

On-site in Lynchburg, VA at the Advanced Technologies Office

 

Your Day to Day as a Manufacturing Development Technologist:

  • Serve as a lead operator for fuel development and manufacturing processes, working with high-temperature furnace systems, glovebox operations, and other fuel processing equipment.
  • Support installation, on/off-site testing, and calibration schedules of assigned equipment.
  • Assist with analyzing and resolving development/manufacturing issues.
  • Provide feedback on system behaviors, facility requirements and functionality relative to operations.
  • Serve as an area lead for fuel development/manufacturing operations, ensuring physical and radiological safety for assigned areas.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and equipment specifications relative to functionality, installation and operation to ensure effective process execution.
  • Mentor and train new operators.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders for area change management efforts including respective area owners, engineering, project controls, environmental health & safety and management.
  • Act as the point of contact for assigned process areas.
  • Support generation and revision of operating and technical procedures for assigned areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A High School diploma/GED is required. An associate’s degree in a related field is preferred and may substitute for experience.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of related experience is required.
  • Must have extensive experience in fuel handling operations; to include high-temperature furnace and glovebox operations.
  • Must possess demonstrable ability to trouble-shoot and resolve complex process issues.
  • Must be proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Must be able to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely written and verbal communication.
  • Must possess a strong commitment to safety culture and willingness to ensure compliance with all codes and standards.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Diploma/Certificate in a related field (such as Machine Technology, Electronics, Materials Science or Chemistry).
  • Prior experience working in a radiological laboratory or chemical handling environment.
  • Familiarity with metallographic operations including sample preparation, imaging and analysis (i.e. digital imaging, microscopy).
  • Prior experience with dimensional inspection techniques and/or familiarity with interpretation of dimensional data – optical comparator and/or CNC machines – is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and process management software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Devonway).
  • Experience with modeling and drafting software (SolidWorks or AutoCAD).
  • Active DOD or DOE security clearance.

Pay: $76,000.00 - $119,000.00

 

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $76,000.00 and $119,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
