Position Overview:
Responsible for performing waste handling and processing activities in support of NOG-J operations at BWXT. This role includes solidification of depleted uranium (DU)-contaminated waste streams and operation of liquid waste systems, including plant sewer processes. The position ensures waste is handled, treated, packaged, and disposed of safely and in compliance with all regulatory and site requirements while supporting efficient plant operations.

Your Day to Day as a Waste Handling Technician:
- Performs solidification and stabilization of DU-containing waste in accordance with approved procedures.
- Operates liquid waste treatment systems, including plant sewer and process effluent systems.
- Handles, transfers, packages, and labels waste in accordance with regulatory and site requirements.
- Prepares waste for storage, shipment, or disposal, ensuring proper documentation and traceability.
- Follows all safety, radiological, environmental, and waste handling procedures.
- Utilizes required PPE and adheres to contamination control and hazardous material handling practices.
- Operates and monitors waste processing equipment, including mixers, pumps, tanks, and solidification systems.
- Identifies and reports equipment issues or abnormal conditions to supervision.
- Performs work in accordance with approved procedures, permits, and Radiological Work Permits (RWPs) as applicable.
- Participates in pre-job briefings and job hazard analyses.
- Maintains accurate waste handling records, logs, and tracking documentation.
- Records process data and ensures proper completion of manifests and waste documentation.
- Maintains clean and organized work areas, ensuring proper waste storage and segregation.
- Supports proper spill prevention and housekeeping practices.
- Responds to spills, leaks, or abnormal conditions involving waste systems.
- Reports incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions promptly.
- Works closely with waste supervisors, operations, radiological control, and safety personnel.
- Supports continuous improvement initiatives and safe, efficient waste operations.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or associate degree preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in waste handling, chemical processing, or industrial operations.
- Must be willing to work any shift.
- Experience working with hazardous materials.
- Basic understanding of waste treatment processes and industrial equipment.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and work in a highly regulated environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to wear required PPE and work in controlled or radiological environments.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for data entry and recordkeeping.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

- Radiological or DU environment experience preferred.

Pay: $22.41 - $$38.62
The starting hourly rate for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $22.41 and $$38.62 per hour. The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
