Position Overview:
As our Automated Welding Specialist, you will support the Welding Engineering team by developing automated weld processes, programming and maintaining welding equipment, and helping implement new welding technologies. You will collaborate closely with the Robotic Welding Lead, internal departments, shop supervisors, welders, and the WE team to ensure effective and efficient welding operations. You will also work with external vendors to coordinate equipment support and influence technical solutions. This role has no direct reports but requires strong communication, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional partnership.

Your Day to Day as our Automated Welding Specialist:
- Develop welding procedures and program robotic and automated welding systems for large nuclear components.
- Lead R&D efforts to create first‑of‑a‑kind welding processes and equipment solutions, including preparing summary reports.
- Write technical specifications for purchasing manual and automated welding equipment.
- Maintain process control during critical welding activities to ensure quality and compliance.
- Provide hands‑on production support to meet quality standards and delivery requirements.
- Collaborate with Welding Engineers and Operators to establish welding parameters, joint designs, and consumable selections for ferrous and non‑ferrous materials.
- Oversee welding operations involved in creating Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
- Train and support welders, machine operators, and robotic operators.
- Maintain regular shop‑floor presence to monitor, verify, and guide in‑process welding activities.
- Ensure welders and operators follow correct procedures and approved processes.
- Review and verify weld data, inspection results, and quality records.
- Support and develop tooling solutions for both manual and automated welding applications.
- Identify and report welding‑related issues, including equipment, tooling, and human performance concerns.
- Assist with emergent welding needs and problem‑solving as they arise.
- Interpret customer drawings, codes, standards, and technical procedures.
- Manage welder and operator qualifications when required.
Required Qualifications:
- University degree or college diploma in engineering, welding and robotics, materials, mechatronics, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of manufacturing or fabrication experience; experience in power generation, nuclear, or heavy manufacturing is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of automated welding processes, systems, and equipment.
- Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, IX, III, CWB W47.1/47.2, CSA W59, and AWS D1.1/D1.6 is an asset.
- CWB Welding Supervisor or Welding Engineer certification considered an asset.
- Understanding of NDE methods including VT, MT, PT, RT, and UT is an asset.
- Experience with tooling design, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks is an asset.
- Experience programming robotic welding applications (GTAW and GMAW).
- Experience with machine welding and orbital welding processes.
- General understanding of manufacturing processes, methods, and workflow.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) at the start of employment is expected to be between $88,000 and $129,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
