BWXT Advanced Technologies LLC is currently seeking an Assistant General Counsel in its Washington, DC; Charlotte, NC and/or Lynchburg, VA locations.

 

BWXT Advanced Technologies LLC (“BWXT AT”), a subsidiary of BWXT Technologies, Inc., is developing cutting edge nuclear technology for both terrestrial and space applications and offers a robust catalog of innovative services and capabilities. The Assistant General Counsel position is the primary responsible counsel for legal support and advice relating to proposals, contracts, claims, and other transactions for BWXT AT.  Responsibilities include negotiation and interpretation of project and business-related contracts, contract enforcement during and after project execution, claim development and defense, assistance with project related dispute resolution, proposal analysis and preparation, organizational conflict of interest evaluation, supervision of junior attorneys and paralegals, training and general business line support. Provides legal guidance, counsel and support to all levels of company executives and project management, procurement and contract administration personnel. Direct report to the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, with indirect reporting to the President, Advanced Technologies.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advise company officials and employees on contractual matters (as prime contractor or subcontractor) related to research and development, engineering design and manufacturing projects on both commercial and U.S. Government contracts (including Other Transaction Agreements (OTA) and Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA)). Review, concur and negotiate all major contract actions.
  • Maintain current knowledge on the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Agency supplements to the FAR. Review contract documents and company purchasing procedures for compliance with pertinent regulations.
  • Assist with preparation and review of proposals including organizational conflict of interest (OCI) review and contract risk register preparation.
  • Assist with claims identification, management and resolution arising out of research and development, engineering design and manufacturing projects.  
  • Assist with litigation management including budget, providing ongoing communication to clients and the legal department and developing strategies for litigation and the potential for settlement.
  • Supervise junior level counsel and paralegals.
  • Prepare and present relevant training to company personnel.
  • Support other legal needs and priorities within BWXT as required.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; current active status in at least one State Bar as certified by the Supreme Court of the licensing jurisdiction. Ten (10) to twelve (12) years of experience that includes substantial commercial and federal government research and development, engineering and/or equipment manufacturing contracting, execution and claims. Must be a U.S. Citizen with no dual citizenship and be able to maintain appropriate security clearance(s) including DOE Q clearance.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVES:

A successful candidate / performer in this position will be a senior leader in the BWXT Advanced Technologies business line with the intention of developing overall legal understanding of other BWXT businesses with the potential for subsequent advancement and assignment within the BWX Technologies Legal department.

 

This position is based at the operating headquarters of the BWXT Advanced Technologies in Lynchburg, VA. BWXT will consider a commuting arrangement with regular presence in Lynchburg and scheduled work from BWXT’s Washington, DC or Charlotte offices.
