We are seeking a Instrumentation Technician at our Vancouver, BC facility. 

 

Job Summary:

The Instrumentation Technician carries out maintenance program on all equipment and instrumentation related to building operations, profuction facilities, production processes, radiation, monitoring and measuring equipment.; repairs, modifies and calibrates said systems and equipment utilising up-to-date trade methods and procedures. 

 

Work Performed:

  • Working from schematics or wiring diagrams and layouts, assembles and installs electronic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Examines and tests defective equipment to determine cause of malfunction or failure.
  • Overhauls, tests and calibrates electronic, electrical and pneumatic equipment throughout Company facilities.
  • Designs, documents and performs installations, operational and performance qualifications for equipment and facilities.
  • Maintains and repairs process instrumentation, programmable controllers and computer systems. Maintains the equipment tracking system.
  • Carries out the provisions of a continuous instrumentation preventive maintenance system and maintains applicable records.
  • Repairs and keeps record of work done on instrumentation and production process instrumentation.
  • Maintains inventory of adequate spare parts for instrumentation, air flow systems and production instrumentation.
  • Modifies, as required, newly received equipment to enable interface with existing systems.
  • Recommends improvements to electronic and pneumatic systems.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • Electronic Technologist diploma (3 year program), Pneumatic instrumentation diploma form a recognized Canadian College.
  • 5-7 years relevant experience.

 

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Read blue prints and schematics.
  • Do free hand layout schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Must have good colour vision to distinguish colour code components and wires.
  • Position involves work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must have knowledge of analytical techniques of pneumatic, electric and electronic controls.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of electronic, electric and pneumatic principles.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools for repairs.
  • Must have a good knowledge of all test equipment to be used relevant to this position.

 

Subject to trade rules and regulations as appropriate to this position.

Recommendations & Decisions:

  • Recommends on improvements to systems.
  • Recommendation on new installations and modifications related to instrumentation.
  • Recommendation on equipment and material purchases.

 

Consequence of Errors:

  • Loss of Property.
  • Plant down time and production loss.
  • Radiation Hazard and possible suspension of AECB License.
  • Carelessness in calibration could result in loss of revenue to the Company and serious injury or death to self or to others.
  • Stalling of projects.
  • Inefficiency.
  • Findings of non-compliance in regulatory audits suspends operations or delay product approvals.

 

Communications:

  • Good verbal skills to enable communications with trainees and co-workers.
  • Good sketching skills including a neat, tidy and accurate presentation.
  • Must communicate effectively with technical and professional personnel within the Company, as well as, consultants, contractors and suppliers.

 

Responsibility for Supervision:

  • May be required to train others.

 

Working Conditions and Other Distinguishing Aspects:

  • Normal hours, but may be required to work weekends and evenings on an occasional or emergency basis.
  • Required to work in active areas, Nuclear Energy Worker Status.
  • Usual laboratory environment frequently working with radioactive materials.
  • Works with minimum supervision.
