Position Overview:
The Director of Operations is tasked with ensuring the safe, compliant, efficient, effective, and economical functioning of radiopharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing at the BWXT Medical facilities located in Vancouver.
Location:
On-site in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Your Day to Day as a Director of Operations:
- Ensures adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP) across all product lines within scope of responsibility.
- Work with department leaders to ensure policies and processes are adhered to, measured and continually improved.
- Lead and direct Managers to ensure departmental operations are aligned with business goals and meet or exceed performance requirements.
- In coordination with department managers, develop and/or improve on key performance indicators and metrics for each department.
- Manage the safe, efficient, effective and economic operation of departments to meet and exceed, where possible, the divisional goals regarding customer service.
- Initiates and implements departmental continuous improvements and cost control reduction programs to improve profitability and maximize use of resources.
- Directs programs aimed at improving efficiencies, reducing waste and improving processes.
- Ensures that all activities within the department meet business unit objectives, regulations and established procedures for lost time accidents, radiation exposure and environmental impact.
- In cooperation with the Environmental Health and Safety team ensures that emergency response procedures are in place and regularly tested.
- Oversees and directs daily support operations with direct leadership and support to departmental Managers.
- Develops and establishes the duties and responsibilities of direct reports and delegates authority and responsibility as deemed appropriate.
- Establishes training programs to maximize the performance of the department and provides job satisfaction and promotional opportunities.
- Identifies, trains and develops direct reports to maximize engagement, plan succession and cross train to ensure continuity of operations.
- Prepares short- and long-term budget objectives, reports on progress towards meeting approved objectives.
- Initiates corrective actions to minimize the negative effects of variances and maximize achievable profit.
- Assists in the development of strategic plans as a member of the BWXT Medical management team.
- Evaluate and decide on key investments in equipment, infrastructure and talent.
Administration:
- Responsible for employee relations which includes, but is not limited to, hiring, work direction, mentoring, coaching, disciplining and the identification of training needs for employees.
- Manage and mentor employees. This includes setting performance targets and establishing goals each year with employees and conducting performance reviews as required by company policy.
- Ensure site compliance to all labour, human rights, safety, quality and environmental regulations.
- Responsible for addressing safety concerns and hazards raised by direct reports with the support of the department.
- Sets a positive example by maintaining a respective attitude, cooperating with co-workers, management, internal and external customers.
- Is a productive team member and helps to meet established departmental and Company goals.
- Follow all company policies and health and safety procedures.
- Effectively gives and receives feedback; willingly asks questions and seeks direction, as needed.
- Assists and/or performs in any and all areas as assigned.
- Willingly accepts responsibility of sharing skills and knowledge with other employees.
- Perform all other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or Engineering or a relevant science related discipline with 10 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment or other relevant experience.
- Experience working in a GMP regulated environment is required; specifically, experience in the Pharmaceutical or Medical Devices industry.
- Experience with sterile medical products is considered an asset.
- Experience with Medical Isotopes is considered an asset.
- Experience working within the nuclear industry is considered an asset.
- Minimum 10 years of management experience is required.
- Knowledge of Reactors and Accelerators is considered an asset. Should have a working knowledge of supply schedules, and product support processes and procedures.
- Data driven with the ability to identify and mitigate risk.
- Solution-oriented and entrepreneurial, with a track record of solving business / operational challenges and achieving strategic growth plans.
- Excellent project management skills are required.
- Excellent written and verbal communicator, adept in conveying information concisely and accurately to varied stakeholders, highly organized, strong work ethic.
- Ability to collaborate, form strong relationships with team members and build comradery and cohesion in teams to ensure they are working toward a common goal.
- Successful track record leading positive cultural change and organizational effectiveness.
- Strong leadership skills with an emphasis on clear directions and accountability.

The base salary range for this position in British Columbia (CA-BC) at the start of employment is expected to be between $$138,000.00 and $$188,000.0 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
