Community Relations & Site Communications Specialist

 

BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. is currently seeking a Community Relations & Site Communications Specialist.

 

JOB PURPOSE:

The position will help develop, maintain and support initiatives outlined in each licensed company’s Public Information and Disclosure Programs. As well, this position will support on-going community engagement and timely site communications. Duties include the development and coordination of communications and events, including but not limited to: stakeholder communications; internal communications; publications; website content; social media; tradeshows; conferences; facility tours; community events and committee meetings.
This position will be based at our BWXT Toronto facility.

 

JOB STRUCTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Reporting to the Manager, Community Relations and Site Communications, the Community
  • Relations and Site Communications Specialist will support BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada and BWXT Medical
  • This position has no direct reports.
  • Frequent levels of exposure to diverse internal and external parties in order to translate information into appropriate messages and convey to various audiences.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Public Information & Disclosure Program & Regulatory Support:

  • Annually update the Public Information and Disclosure Program (PIDP) for BWXT NEC and BWXT Medical.
  • Uphold commitments listed within the PIDP by executing deliverables within communications plans.
  • Manage the 1-800# inquiries and questions@bwxt.com mailbox.
  • Oversee and update content on nec.bwxt.com and medical.bwxt.com websites.
  • Oversee and update stakeholder listing and track stakeholder engagement.
  • Assist senior staff with hearings by assisting with presentations, collection and dissemination of interventions, background information, etc.
  • Assist with Indigenous relations in support of PIDP and overall company goals.
  • Be an active participant in emergency response drills supervised by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and assist with updates.
  • File all correspondence to and from CNSC, stakeholders, media, etc. in accordance with PIDP housekeeping.
  • Assist with development, roll-out, reviews and approval of public polling surveys, analyze data.

Community Engagement:

  • Assist with the development of community engagement plans.
  • Coordinate and attend Community Liaison Committee meetings; assist with the recruitment of new members; take minutes and post approved minutes to the website.
  • Coordinate community events, including tours and information sessions for BWXT NEC and BWXT Medical.
  • Develop and distribute communications materials, including community newsletters (digital and print), information graphics, FAQs, pamphlets.
  • Attend community events to represent BWXT NEC, obtain photos, etc. for use in promotional material.
  • Support the BWXT NEC and BWXT Medical Contribution and Membership programs, including the development of annual forecast, responses to community requests, issuance of payments in line with budget and forecasting, obtaining approvals for new requests, coordination of sponsorship and events.
  • Support Indigenous Relations activities, including attending regular community meetings, sitting on Indigenous Relations Committee and supporting the Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) certification.
  • Sit on Volunteer Strong committee and provide communication support.

Site Communications:

  • Develop and issue internal communications for BWXT NEC and BWXT Medical, as required.
  • Oversee the development of internal communication materials (posters, digital screen slides).
  • Support employee events (all-staff meetings, turkey day, BBQs, etc.)
  • Manage BWXT NEC and BWXT Medical promotional inventory and handle promotional merchandise requests.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Community college diploma in Public Relations, Marketing Communications, Journalism or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2 – 3 years of experience in a technical environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, adapting styles/tones to different audiences.
  • Excellent writing skills, including logic and structure, grammar, usage, syntax and punctuation for emails, letters, reports, memos, presentations, ad copy and all forms of collateral.
  • Strong event management experience.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software, specifically Microsoft 365 and basic knowledge of print/graphical requirements.
  • Experience using graphic design software, such as Canva and InDesign
  • Experience using online email marketing tools, such as Constant Contact
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts and communicate to a diverse audience.
  • Strong research, interviewing and writing skills.
  • Ability to coordinate various projects and meet a variety of milestones under very tight timelines.

 

 The base salary range for this position in [[Ontario]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[60,000]] and $[[93,000]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
