Radiological Controls Manager (Knolls) - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Niskayuna, NY

 

Responsibilities:

 

This position will be responsible to maintain strict radiological standards, controls of radiological and environmental work operations and procedures, dosimetry control and records, and providing on the job supervision of all radiological and environmental work.

 

Specific duties include, but are not limited:

 

  • This position requires practical knowledge of standard procedures for mitigating the hazards associated with radiation and radioactive material encountered during contract work.

 

  • Ensures that radiation safety program, policies, procedures, and requirements are planned, implemented and executed in day-to-day contract operations.

 

  • Responsible for radiological controls training and testing for all contract engineering, operations, and radiological controls personnel.

 

  • Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Radiological Controls and Radiological Training departments is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these organizations.

 

  • Is responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

  • Directs Radiological Controls Supervisors to support operational tasks and provide radiological oversight.

 

  • Interface with BWXT management and customer concerning all radiological issues.

 

  • Provides radiological oversight and leadership for all BWXT personnel to ensure the highest radiological standards are kept.  Interprets radiological control requirements, directs the department’s participation in task scoping, and providing technical review of work documents.

 

  • Provides oversight and direction for the radiological controls training for LAB-RC-2088 Article 107 and 108 qualifications.

 

  • Acts as critique leader responsible for facilitating critique investigations and issuing reports.

 

  • Must communicate well in both oral and written forms.

 

  • Oversight of fieldwork for job performance and safety.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

 

  • This position requires a minimum education of a bachelor’s degree and typically requires 5 years of experience in the leadership in the field or in a related area.  A minimum of five years’ experience as a RCT supervisor.

 

  • Must be a US citizen – no dual citizenship

 

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” security clearance – a current clearance is preferred.The ability to obtain and maintain radiological dosimetry in the Naval Reactors Program.

 

Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Position requires U.S. Citizenship (with no dual citizenship) and ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation and previous employment reference verifications.
