Position Overview:
The Senior Manager, Supply Chain Strategic Development serves as the enterprise champion for strategic supply chain capability expansion and performance excellence. Acting as a strategic partner to both suppliers and internal stakeholders, the Senior Manager, Supply Chain Strategic Development drives end-to-end supplier improvement initiatives, supports strategic sourcing execution, develops and executes long range strategic supply chain plans to reduce program risk, and ensure that suppliers are capable of supporting current and future business growth.
This position blends technical depth with business acumen — requiring strong analytical, operational, and leadership capabilities to proactively develop strategies and suppliers, mitigate risk, and drive continuous improvement across the global supply chain.

Your Day as a Senior Manager, Supply Chain Strategic Development:
- Develop, implement, and drive execution of long-range strategic supply chain plans to enhance BWXT’s supply chain capabilities and reduce risk to BWXT and our customers.
- Establish and maintain supplier development roadmaps, prioritizing initiatives based on business criticality, performance risk, and strategic alignment.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior management on supplier capability status, risk exposure, and long-term development priorities.
- Establish and maintain a standard framework for supplier evaluation that can be leveraged across projects, programs, and categories.
- Lead the evaluation and development of key strategic suppliers to ensure consistent alignment with company expectations for cost, quality, delivery, compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Conduct detailed supplier capability and process maturity assessments to identify gaps in capacity, quality systems, and manufacturing technology.
- Collaborate with other Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Project Management and Customer-facing personnel to evaluate potential new suppliers and provide input on technical and operational suitability.
- Validate supplier process control systems, equipment capability, first article testing, and inspection methods to ensure readiness for production release.
- Facilitate root cause and corrective action (RCCA) processes for recurring supplier issues and ensure preventive measures are effectively implemented and sustained.
- Partner with supply chain personnel at all levels to identify and mitigate supply chain risks (single-source dependencies, capacity constraints, geopolitical or compliance risks).
- Support new product introductions (NPI) and production ramp-ups by ensuring suppliers are equipped with the tools, processes, and capacity to meet schedule and performance targets.
- Lead structured supplier reviews to communicate performance results, improvement expectations, and partnership opportunities.
- Present key category strategies, action plans and progress to internal stakeholders on a routine cadence.
- Ensure all supplier development activities are conducted in compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of supplier assessments, development plans, and performance reports within enterprise systems.
- Contribute to the development of supplier management frameworks, best practices, and tools to standardize processes across the organization.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in supply chain, supplier development, quality, or operations within a complex manufacturing environment. Related experience in the aerospace, defense, nuclear, or heavy industrial industries strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of successfully leading supplier improvement and development initiatives that resulted in measurable performance gains.
- Strong working knowledge of quality management systems (AS9100, ISO 9001, NQA-1), root cause analysis, and lean six sigma tools.
- Exceptional communication, project management, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence and drive accountability at all levels.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 33%.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

Pay: $99,000 - $157,000
The base salary range for this position in Ohio (US-OH) at the start of employment is expected to be between $99,000 and $157,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
