We are recruiting for a Project EHS Specialist (1 year Contract) for our facility in Peterborough, Ontario.

The Project EHS Specialist will provide EHS expertise and assistance as part of the project team as they design, install, commission and operate a new process.




·         Represent the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) function on the project team and attend project meetings.

·         Ensure work is planned and executed in accordance with the facility safety and environmental programs, as well as with applicable environmental and safety regulations and best practices.

·         Support the Management of Change program for the project ensuring EHS and compliance related actions are completed as per program requirements.

·         Perform job safety risk assessments and job hazard analysis by thoroughly understanding workstation processes and/or project requirements by conducting employee interviews and interfacing with project engineers.

·         Develop and update EHS program documentation for the project where required.

·         Define project training needs and select training tools.  Develop, deliver, or coordinate training and/or participate in the selection of qualified individuals to deliver training and verify delivery of training as per the training program.

·         Assist the Facilities Co-ordinator in the completion of contractor Safe Work Plans and delivering safety orientations with contractors from time to time.

·         Administer compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems (e.g. Gensuite, Learning Management System) for worker training, routine tasks, worker concerns, action items and event reporting.

·         Lead and manage the Chemical Management Program for the project. Maintain and distribute current WHMIS and SDS information.

·         Lead the issue resolution process related to near miss and injury investigations; develop detailed reports based on root cause analysis, recommend solutions, assist in implementation of corrective actions, follow-up where required.

·         Interface effectively with the project team and all levels within the company as well as organizations outside of the business (i.e. Regulators).

·         Other duties as required.




·         University degree in EHS, science or engineering along with 5-10 years related experience.

·         Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·         Knowledge of applicable Canadian EHS regulations and standards.

·         Knowledge of Canada Labour Code Part II.

·         Hands-on problem solver.

·         Knowledge of MS Office software.

·         Prior experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.

·         Must be available for rotating on-call periods.

·         Familiarity with project design and implementation is an asset.
