Strategic Supply Manager


We are looking for a Strategic Supply Manager for our Peterborough, ON location.


BWXT NEC Nuclear Service division is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing and service of on-power refueling and reactor maintenance tooling sold around the world. Job Summary


The Strategic Supply Manager will lead the procurement function within the Nuclear Services business. The activities in this business are associated with the design and supply of equipment for fuel handling systems, specialized tooling and process plant systems in the nuclear industry. This position will focus on supporting the growth of key supply programs.




Functional leadership of sourcing personnel associated with all aspects of the purchasing function. This position will also be responsible for implementing process simplification and streamlined practices from industry. This position requires frequent interaction with suppliers, subcontractors, cross-functional internal teams and customers.


Specific responsibilities and accountabilities include:

  • Champion strategic supply initiatives to reduce cost, improve fill rates and satisfy customers.
  • Lead the negotiation of major purchases and the strategic discussions at supplier locations.
  • Develop/Approve Strategies to provide optimum competitive advantage to BWXT. Collaborate with other BWXT business units to leverage total company purchasing power.
  • Build and maintain supplier relationships through regular meetings with key supplier senior staff. Resolve supplier conflicts when necessary.
  • Support of parts kit programs including to new and existing customers  and drive process improvements and lean initiatives to maximize efficiency.
  • Lead continual change efforts to achieve cost reduction and process simplification and foster a positive, productive work environment based on teamwork and employee engagement.
  • Manage the sourcing processes (e.g. vendor selection, vendor development, negotiations, contracts) for capital projects and direct material.
  • Establish departmental plans and goals including success criteria, risks, activities, deliverables, resource requirements and budget.
  • Hold communication meetings with staff to relay goals, objectives, expectations and other general information impacting the function.
  • Recruit and develop staff, including retention and training for the department.
  • Understand and ensure staff compliance with applicable external codes, regulations and guidelines as well as internal standards set by BWXT.
  • Coach staff to achieve best in class results.



  • Technical Degree/Diploma or Technical certifications in the areas of Supply Management, Logistics, Project Management or related fields.
  • Minimum (10) or more years’ experience in procurement and/or equivalent work-related experience.
  • Minimum (3) years in a leadership position.


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Supervisory/managerial experience in Supply Management and/or Logistics.
  • Demonstrated management capability at a senior level.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Material/product knowledge in regards to manufacturing and complex parts.
  • Experience in the Nuclear, Aerospace, Medical, Transportation or other highly regulated industry.
  • Resource and financial management experience.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
