We are currently seeking a Senior Instrumentation Technician for our Kanata location.

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Responsible for the complete maintenance program on all instrumentation related to building operations, production facilities and radiation monitoring and measuring equipment. Directs or carries out repairs, modifications and calibrations of said systems and equipment. As a member of project teams, provides expertise relating to instrumentation.

 

WORK PERFORMED

                                               

Directs or carries out the following:

 

  • Assembly and installation of electronic and pneumatic equipment, working from schematics or wiring diagrams and layouts.
  • Examination and testing of defective equipment to determine cause of malfunction or failure.
  • Overhaul testing and calibration of electronic, electrical and pneumatic equipment throughout Company facilities.
  • Maintenance and repair of process instrumentation, programmable controllers and computer systems.
  • Maintenance of air flow measuring equipment and related controls for nuclear ventilation.
  • Provision of a continuous instrumentation preventive maintenance system and maintenance of applied records.
  • Instrumentation and production process instrumentation repair and applicable record keeping.
  • Establishment and maintenance of an inventory of adequate spare parts for  instrumentation, air flow control system and production instrumentation.
  • Modification as required of newly received equipment to enable interface with existing system.
  • Participates on projects, providing expertise in relation to the purchasing and modification of electronic, radiation and pneumatic equipment.
  • Advises on estimated serviceability and repair cost for equipment and costs of modification to new equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

JOB CHARACTERISTICS

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Electronic technologist diploma (3 year program);
  • Pneumatic instrumentation diploma from recognized Provincial College;
  • 6 to 8 years relevant experience.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Read blue prints and schematics;
  • Must have good colour vision to distinguish colour coded components and wires;
  • Position involves work at heights and in confined spaces;
  • Must have knowledge of analytical techniques of pneumatic, electric and electronic controls;
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of electronic, electric and pneumatic principles;
  • Must have mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools for repairs;
  • Must have a good knowledge of all test equipment to be used relevant to this position;
  • Subject to trade rules and regulations as appropriate to this position.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS AND DECISIONS

  • Recommendation on improvements to systems;
  • Recommendation on new installation and modifications related to instrumentation;
  • Recommendation on equipment and material purchases.

 

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Good verbal skills to enable him to communicate with trainees and co‑workers;
  • Must communicate effectively with technical and professional personnel within the Company, as well as, Consultants, contractors and suppliers.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND OTHER DISTINGUISHING ASPECTS

  • Normal hours, but may be required to work on weekends and evenings on an occasional or emergency basis;
  • May be on call 24 hours per day;
  • Required to work in active areas (Atomic Radiation Worker status);
  • Usually laboratory environment frequently working with radioactive materials.
