Position Overview  
As a Process Equipment Technician, supports new and existing production processes in Nuclear Medicine, Industrial Irradiation and Chalk River Facilities with problem solving and mechanical maintenance skills. Performs scheduled and breakdown maintenance, and machining and fitting operations as required.

On-site in Kanata, Ontario  

 

Your Day to Day as a Process Equipment Technician  

  • Trouble-shoots, repairs and maintains equipment in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Provides technical support to the engineering and design groups primarily relating to original prototype design and troubleshooting.
  • Produces or contributes to working sketches or designs for components, devices or test fixtures as required
  • Performs routine inspection of production equipment to ensure efficient operation and alleviate breakdowns.
  • Ensures and participates in the accurate preparation of written documentation such as procedures and preventative maintenance records.
  • Performs inspection tasks (eg. Quality Control mechanical and safety inspections on lifting devices). Fabricates equipment components, prototypes and devices with minimum supervision.
  • Sets-up equipment for testing in accordance with required specifications, documents experimental work and reports findings.
  • Ensures that all Quality Program documentation is complete and forwarded promptly for approvals.
  • Operates and maintains all equipment and machine tools of the shop.
  • Performs other related production equipment and shipping container maintenance duties as appropriate. 
  • Guides junior members of the team. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Secondary School Graduation
  • Provincial Certification as a Machinist or Toolmaker. plus 5 years related experience, 2 years of which to be in a position of Maintenance Machinist.
  • Computer skills will be an asset.Grade 12 technical secondary school.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of skills and efficiency as a machinist with the ability to operate a variety of machine tools.
  • Must have the ability to understand and apply technical instructions and to work from engineering documents and specifications.
  • Ability to originate or assist with the design of prototype devices or the improvement of existing equipment.
  • Can work independently with a minimum of supervision and possess excellent interpersonal skills, have knowledge of shop mathematics and is a team player.
  • Must be able to document fabrication, modifications or development records.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skills in the mechanical, fitting, welding and sheet metal trades are essential. 
  • Familiarity with working in cleanrooms, controlled environments, and GMPs would be considered an asset.

The pay range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) is expected to be between $82,341  and $103,169 per year.  The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment and are subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
