BWXT Medical Ltd is hiring a R5 Junior Radiation Surveyor at our production facility in Kanata, Ontario. 

 

Job Summary: 

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Radiation Safety Manager, R&IS and the guidance of the Radiation Surveyor, the Junior Radiation Surveyor performs the following functions:

  • To provide technical Radiation Safety advice.

  • To carry out or monitor R&IS Radiation Safety Procedures to provide a safe working environment with RCC and to provide a safe surrounding environment.

  • Carries out all on-site aspects of Radiation Surveyor duties.

  • To perform radiation safety duties that satisfy the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and RCC site license. 

  • Responsible for certification of out-going radioactive shipments. 

 

This is a training level position toward full Radiation Surveyor capabilities. 

 

Work Performed: 

Will carry out, under the guidance of the Radiation Surveyor, until proficient enough to work on own, the following duties: 

  • Provides radiation safety advice to all operation personnel, performs radiation and contamination surveys as requested and assures that Radiation Safety Procedures are practiced.

  • Performs Transport Index measurements on all out-going shipments.

  • Conducts in-house and external environmental monitoring including liquid and stack releases.

  • Will acquire a working knowledge in the following areas: first-line instrument maintenance and calibration, respirator fit testing, emergency response inventory, radioactivity measurement, radiation safety training, nuclear ventilation system testing, inventory or consumables and capital equipment.

  • Will be called upon to escort radioactive material shipments in accorance to Special Arrangement Certificate from the AECB and verifies information contained in documentation included in the shipments.

  • May be on outside assignments to provide assistance during radiological surveys, decontamination investigation of radiation incidents. 

  • Will learn to operate MCA and be able to identify unknown contaminants.

  • Will learn to perform HEPA and charcoal filter testing.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

 

Education & Experience:

  • Secondary school graduation with credits in physics and mathematics.

  • Preference give to community college graduate in a science.

  • Normally 5-7 years experience in a technical field or 3-5 years experience in industrial hygiene or related safety occupation.

 

Knowlege and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of radioactivity and radiation protection is a definate asset.

  • Must be willing and capable of successfully completing an extensive theoretical and functional training program.

The pay range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) is expected to be between $68,871  and $86,290 per year.  The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment and are subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
