BWXT Medical is hiring a Director, Research & Development at our production facility in Kanata, ON.
Location: On-site; 447 March Road, Kanata, ON
Position Overview:
Leads and manages the research and development team, cultivating an environment that encourages innovation and teamwork. Develops and executes the R&D strategy to ensure alignment with corporate objectives and market needs. Supervises the teams responsible for the design and development of medical isotopes.
Work You’ll Do:
- Collaborates with leaders across various functions, including regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and marketing, to guarantee the success of the products.
- Engages with industry specialists to ensure that products are created in alignment with customer expectations, while also maintaining an awareness of customer needs and challenges, enabling the development of products that effectively meet those requirements.
- Manages budgets and resources to achieve development milestones and adhere to project timelines.
- Establishes key performance indicators and reporting metrics to assess success and promote accountability within the R&D department. Ensure that all research and development activities adhere to regulatory standards, industry norms, and best practices.
- Builds and sustains relationships with key opinion leaders, research institutions, and industry collaborators. Prepare and deliver technical and strategic presentations to senior management and stakeholders.
- Mentors R&D staff, fostering their professional development and skill enhancement.
- Provides strategic leadership and guidance to the R&D organization to secure a competitive edge and enable global markets to achieve substantial market share and growth.
- Leverages insights into competition and product potential to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Chemistry, or equivalent from an accredited university, along with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Extensive knowledge of Regulatory, Quality and Compliance requirements during Pharmaceutical Development.
- Extensive knowledge of best practices, Quality and Compliance requirements for equipment qualification.
- Extensive knowledge of the Quality by Design development process
- Desired Characteristics:
- Key success factors are achieving and maintaining effective project planning, reporting management, milestone completion on-time / on-budget, meeting metrics, motivating a diverse group of staff, and achieving results through influencing, actions and setting of expectations.
- Demonstrated ability in product or system design and project planning / execution, including development of processes / procedures and process improvements.
Experience in the following areas: Engineering design, team leadership, product design leadership, manufacturing team leadership, commercial operations, project management and / or project planning. - Very strong communication, negotiation and facilitation skills.
- Experience in the nuclear industry, especially radiolabeling chemistry, is considered an asset but not required.
