Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager, Monitoring and Decontamination Services, the Decontamination Helper - 12 month term performs general custodial and janitorial duties in Active Areas. May be required to perform general decontamination work and handling of radioactive waste.
Your Day to Day as a Decontamination Helper - 12 month term:
Will be required to carry out, under guidance and supervision, some or all of the following duties:
- Works independently to perform general custodial and janitorial duties in active area, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, waxing and stripping when necessary, of all designated areas.
- Removes potentially radioactive waste from various facilities, and scans it for contamination.
- Collects and replaces air sampler filters for air monitoring.
- Maintains janitorial supplies.
- Does laundry within active area.
- Warehouse pickup of supplies.
- Other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have grade twelve or appropriate experience.
- Must be able to maintain records and follow procedures.
- Must be able to work a variety of shifts as per the collective agreement, which includes regular scheduled weekend shifts and overtime as necessary.
- This position is classified as a Nuclear Energy Worker.
- Be able to push and pull hand carts with an initial and end force of up to 25 kg on an occasional basis.
- Capable of wearing respiratory protection equipment potentially for extended periods.
- Be able to lift up to 5 kg on a frequent basis and 10 kg on an occasional basis.
- Good manual dexterity and grip strength.
- This position requires the successful completion of a vision screening and hearing test as a pre-employment condition.
- Shift work and overtime requirements.

The pay range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) is expected to be between $47,914 and $60,035 per year. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment and are subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
