Position Overview: 

 

The Production Supervisor (weekend shift) will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of their assigned work cell, overseeing both production and quality. This position will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes to the production team. The Production Supervisor will utilize experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives, and drive short-term and some long-term production goals to meet schedule targets, while ensuring smooth handoff with the day shift.

This position is onsite in Oakville, Ontario.

 

Your Day to Day:

 

  • Manage day-to-day production activities and make necessary changes to achieve daily, weekly and yearly production targets / Takt rates.
  • Lead the production team to efficiently meet quality and production targets while maintaining a safe and clean facility.
  • Develop production line manufacturing plans consistent with the master schedule and production objectives.
  • Use the capacity plan and schedule to establish and resource the personnel required to meet objectives.
  • Coordinate with Quality Control to generate dimensional inspections on all work in progress in a timely manner.
  • Working with Engineering in the creation of robust work instructions and manufacturing plans.
  • Work with Office Services to provided necessary maintenance for critical machinery.
  • Oversee the Weld Room.
  • Schedule and lead daily production meetings.
  • Drive corrective actions for Quality Alerts.
  • Provide training and coaching to help new and existing team members develop in their current role, while giving them the opportunity to cross train in different areas. Training should have an emphasizes on safety, quality and productivity.
  • Provide direction to support the needs of each production area (machining, saws, assembly, debur, wash, packaging, harparizing, part marking etc), including the workforce, work assignments, scheduling of overtime, and training.
  • Approve employee hours on a weekly basis to ensure hours are entered correctly for Payroll.
  • Report on earned hours on a daily basis.
  • Maintain open lines of communication between employees and management. 
  • Ensure all resources and assets are used efficiently and effectively.
  • Manage shop floor inventory of materials to ensure sufficient WIP throughout processes.
  • Network with leaders to develop a strong culture where employees are motivated to achieve business goals.
  • Weekend shift Supervisors may be required to run a machine and may have one or more of the following additional responsibilities: 
    • May be required to use of crane or forklift to move parts per production requirements.
    • Empty chip bins as necessary. 
    • Will oversee employees in Quality Control and Shipping/Receiving as a part of duties  

 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or college certificate in a technical specialty or skilled-trades certification as a CNC machinist, millwright or toolmaker.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in leadership roles in an MRP-based manufacturing environment using large CNC lathes and/or mill turn machines to manufacture precision components from stainless steel and other specialty alloys.
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing operations and best practices including Lean Manufacturing, 5S, SPC and Continuous Improvement teams an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability in building and leading teams to drive improvement and reduce cost. 
  • A “Critical Thinker” who applies a “Quality” mindset to problem solving and decision making,
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills in the English language,
  • Excellent ability to read complex mechanical part drawings with tight tolerances,
  • Proficiency with NC controllers and G-Code programming,
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Suite of software, especially Excel

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $89,000 and $139,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
