BWXT is seeking an Electrical/Electronic Design Engineer for its team located in Oak Ridge, TN. 


The successful candidate will work as part of a multifunctional, joint organization R&D team, to develop innovative pressure, temperature, flow, and neutron flux instruments, along with the methods and components to use the instruments for in-situ measurement and control of advanced reactors. This position requires a relevant Electrical or Electronic Engineering background, along with sufficient knowledge and interpersonal skills to work successfully within a joint organizational team.


Job Responsibilities include the understanding and execution of:

·         Development of innovative sensors, instruments and control architectures, as an integral part of the development of advanced nuclear reactors.

·         Design of complex embedded sensors and systems for integration into additively manufactured structures, and effects testing involving manufacturing implementation.

·         Design, development, and specification of instruments, sensors, devices and control systems.

·         Integration and test of complex electro/mechanical tools and systems.

·         Ability to successfully pursue and complete multiple engineering activities simultaneously within a joint organizational team.

·         Design control and configuration control concepts.

·         Assembly, testing and inspection of advanced sensors within designed components and systems.

·         Working with & generation of procedures, processes and tools within various stages of production.

·         Specification procurement requirements, and supplier technical oversight for procured Instrumentation and Control (I&C) components.


Job Qualifications/Requirements:

·         A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university is required with a degree in Electrical Engineering being preferred.

·         Five years of experience in Instrumentation and Controls Systems Design is required.

·         Ability to deliver clear, concise, accurate and timely written and verbal communication.

·         Prior hands on experience and ability to work in a shop/machine development environment.

·         Strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.

·         Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (ASTM, IEEE, NBIC, ANSI, etc.) as it relates to a design/build and implementation effort.

·         Travel (<20%) domestic and international.

·         Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.


Preferred Qualifications:

·         10+ years' or more related experience

·         Project engineering and planning experience (task plans, schedules, etc).

·         Prior experience with advanced sensor technologies, such as fiber optics or aerosol jet printing.
