Our team in Mount Vernon has the opportunity to work on large-scale CNC vertical turning centers, multi-axis CNC horizontal boring mills, and smaller CNC lathes and mills to machine one-of-a-kind precision components for naval nuclear reactors used in submarines and aircraft carriers. We are looking for a Machining Support Supervisor to lead and mentor a team of CNC programmers, Tooling Application Engineers, and Tooling Assistants.  This is a low-volume, highly-engineered manufacturing environment, and you’d be involved in the full life cycle of the build.  Additionally, you’ll get to work in a safe, clean, and highly-specialized environment alongside a great team of skilled colleagues. In addition to rewarding work, you’ll receive competitive pay, paid time off, medical, dental, vision insurance, and service based retirement contributions with additional 401k match.  
 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Directly supervise and support a team of CNC programmers, Tooling Application Engineers, and Tooling Assistants spanning two shifts
  • Provide technical support/assistance to all tooling and CNC programming staff
  • Assign work through the program request dashboard and manage tool requests
  • Track budget for cutting tool kits through collaboration with Tooling Engineering
  • Participate in machining kick-off and pre-work meetings to ensure all requirements can be achieved with a safe, efficient process while maintaining the highest possible quality
  • Order general shop tooling to support machining production
  • Foster an environment of innovation and continuous improvement as it relates to new cutting technology, programming best practices, and technological advances in CNC programming
  • Partner with other BWXT sites to share ideas and align standard work
  • Work closely with machine shop front line managers and manufacturing engineers to develop/modify processes to optimize machining productivity and performance
  • Develop working relationship with machinists executing work
  • Manage employee performance through the evaluation of expectations and objectives, including safe working practices, quality of work, compliance to procedures, and productivity
  • Maintain structured on-the-job training logs for each team member
  • Manage employee attendance and production records through electronic systems
  • Evaluate and manage staffing levels to support business objectives across all shifts
  • Accountable to achieving and driving business metrics within the team through adherence to standards and innovative problem solving
  • Promote unity and positive morale in a respectful work environment
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent along with a minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is required.  Supervisory experience includes but is not limited to, leading teams, assigning individual work, performance management, and coaching/mentoring employees
  • Bachelor’s degree in lieu of supervisory experience will be considered
  • Experience/knowledge of CNC programming
  • Experience/knowledge of precision machining and cutting tools
  • Demonstrated task management skills through self-driven initiative
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, contribute to technical teams, and establish effective working relationships with others
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. data entry, Microsoft Word and Excel, labor charging, etc.) including the ability to perform basic analytics and create department metrics

 

Pay: $75,000.00 - $125,000.00

 

The base salary range for this position in Indiana (US-IN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $75,000.00 and $125,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
