Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced supervisor to lead a dynamic team of machinists in a technical manufacturing environment. This role involves directly supervising and supporting up to 10 machinists for the weekend shift, along with oversight of weekend volunteers. The ideal candidate will practice visible leadership on the floor, providing technical oversight and ensuring operational efficiency through effective communication and collaboration. Your Day to Day as a Machine Shop Supervisor
- Directly supervise and support up to 10 machinists spanning the two shifts (each lasting 12 hours) and oversight of weekend volunteers.
- Practice visible leadership on the floor providing technical oversight of work through observations and floor surveillance.
- Lead daily start-up meetings reviewing machine assignments and site communication.
- Provide pass down notes to assist start-up of following shift and communicate with weekday supervisors.
- Ensure timely availability of required materials for the operations being performed.
- Perform pre-work activities including review of process plan, part drawings, machine setup and safety concerns.
- Maintain structured on-the-job training logs for each machinist.
- Participate in and promote Kaizen events and encourage process improvement using lean principles.
- Promote and support good housekeeping and organization at each machine.
- Manage employee performance through evaluation of expectations and objectives, including safe working practices, quality of work, compliance to policies and procedures and productivity.
- Coach machinists on unacceptable performance.
- Manage performance and attendance using electronic systems.
- Encourage questioning attitudes to ensure a safe work environment and high quality standards.
- Works closely with engineering to develop/modify processes to optimize machining productivity and performance.
- Accounting to achieving and driving unit metrics within the team through adherence to standards and innovative problem solving.
- Ability to work on weekday shift for training then transition to weekend shift.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of direct supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment and 5 years of experience applicable to machining. Supervisory experience includes but is not limited to leading teams, assigning individual work, performance management, work evaluation, issuing disciplinary actions and coaching/mentoring employees.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally, contribute to technical teams, and establish effective working relationships with other departments.
- Demonstrated computer skills (i.e. data entry, Word and Excel, timekeeping systems, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in manual machining, CNC machining and, or CNC Programming.

Pay: $76,000.00 - $116,000.00
The base salary range for this position in Indiana (US-IN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $76,000.00 and $116,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
