We currently have an opening for a Fabrication Front Line Manager (Second Shift) at our facility in Mount Vernon, Indiana!
What we do
Situated on a 100-acre site, our facility has 600,000 square feet of shop area and a 1,000-ton lift capacity from the shop to the river. The Mount Vernon facility is equipped with large CNC machine tools along with sophisticated welding and heat-treating equipment to produce components for naval nuclear reactors, which are used in submarines and aircraft carriers.
What you'll do
- Practices visible leadership on the floor providing technical and administrative oversight of work through observations and floor surveillance.
- Encourages a questioning attitude to ensure a safe work environment and the highest quality standards.
- Clearly communicates job expectations and performance requirements to welders and production techs.
- Manages employee performance through the evaluation of expectations and objectives, including safe working practices, quality of work, compliance to procedures, and productivity.
- Coaches employees to improve and/or correct unacceptable performance.
- Manages employee attendance, training and production records through electronic systems.
- Serves as a liaison between shop floor personnel and management.
- Leads production communication and safety meetings.
- Schedules department resources to meet established scheduling deadlines.
- Works closely with engineering to develop/modify processes to exceed efficiency requirements and optimize welding productivity/performance.
- Ensures timely availability of required materials for the operations being performed.
- Schedules overtime according to needs.
- Performs monthly risk assessments of work area, identifying vulnerabilities and taking action for immediate correction.
- Through coordination with engineering ensures personnel maintain the proper weld qualifications.
- Takes an active role in continuous improvement initiatives with their area of responsibility.
- Leads weekly department level discussion at visual performance boards, receives critique and/or feedback, and provides constructive improvement paths.
What we need from you
- High school equivalency along with a minimum of two (2) years of Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Leadership experience includes but is not limited to, leading teams, leading teams to complete project assignments, demonstrated ability to effectively assign work, evaluate work performed by others, and coach/mentor employees.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; contribute to technical teams; and establish effective working relationships with others is required.
- Prior experience in manual and/or automatic welding, a working knowledge of heat treat, NDT, tooling and machining processes, and the ability to interpret welding symbols and technical drawings is desired.
- Basic computer skills including proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- This position is a designated 2nd shift position and will not rotate. The selected candidate will train up to 6 months on 1st shift or split shift before moving full time to the 2nd shift position.

Pay: $
The base salary range for this position in Indiana (US-IN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $77,000 and $116,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
