BWXT is seeking qualified and motivated college students to join our highly-skilled team of engineers for a unique internship opportunity at our Mt. Vernon, IN facility.  BWXT offers paid internships with additional housing stipends for those interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from the facility.  Interns hired for this position will perform challenging tasks in their field of study while developing and delivering unique engineering solutions used in a nuclear environment.  Among other tasks, our interns can expect to create/update drawings and procedures, assist with product and/or tooling design, perform testing and analysis, and assist with project management and procurement of materials as needed.  Be a part of something big and help support the defense industry while gaining valuable knowledge and honing your skills. 

 

Successful candidates must be currently enrolled in an ABET accredited college/university studying mechanical engineering AND:

 

  • Have a sophomore standing or above at the time the internship begins
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have successfully completed courses in Statics and Mechanics of Materials.  Preference will be given to candidates who have also completed coursework in Dynamics, Physics, and/or Solid Modeling.

 

Internships will last approximately 10-12 weeks, but may be extended in some situations.  Students will be required to make a PowerPoint presentation detailing their completed work and assigned projects at the conclusion of their internship.

 

U.S. Citizenship with no dual citizenship is required for this position. 

 

Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Position requires U.S. Citizenship (no dual citizenship) with ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance involving an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test and previous employment reference verifications.
