Quality Assurance Engineer  -  BWX Technologies, Inc.  -  Lynchburg, VA


This position is responsible for support and oversight of BWXT Nuclear Services Group activities including advanced nuclear applications engineering and research & development.  The Quality Assurance Engineer's primary tasks are to monitor, evaluate and support compliance with the quality assurance program and applicable customer and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities include:


  • Providing support and oversight for engineering and advanced manufacturing activities.
  • Monitoring design and analysis activities for compliance with ASME Code, regulatory and/or BWXT requirements.
  • Developing inspection and test plans and advanced quality techniques.
  • Conducting reviews engineering documents, drawings, and procedures to ensure that applicable quality requirements are met.
  • Participating in quality program development including preparation of quality manuals, plans and procedures.
  • Participating in supplier implementation audits and surveillances.
  • Participating in periodic internal audits, surveillances and assessments to ensure compliance to internal processes and procedures.
  • Assisting in identifying quality requirements for sublet materials and services and reviewing supplier proposals.
  • Evaluating corrective actions for adequacy and completeness; leading cause analysis.
  • Supporting additional assignments by management. 


Job Qualifications/Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality standards (ISO 9001, ASME, NQA-1, AS9100, ANSI, and ASTM).
  • Knowledge of government regulations and industry standards as applied to quality assurance including 10 CFR50 App. B, 10 CFR 830.120, DOE O 414.1 and 10 CFR 71.
  • Knowledge of inspection tools, systems, techniques and NDE methods.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in generating technical reports and presentations using MS Office Applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project.
  • Knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards and related standards pertaining to designing, manufacturing and assembly of nuclear plants and components desired.
  • Minimum of 7 year’s equivalent quality assurance/control experience in a regulated industry with a minimum of 3 years of experience associated with nuclear quality.

Position requires U.S. Citizenship with (no dual citizenship) ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test and previous employment reference verifications.
