BWXT is currently seeking a Sr. Category Manager to support strategic sourcing!


BWXT’s mission is to provide safe and effective nuclear solutions for national security, clean energy, environmental remediation, nuclear medicine and space exploration.  We have manufacturing facilities, laboratories and work sites across the country, all of which require products and services to work efficiently and effectively.


BWXT’s Procurement organization is centralized in Lynchburg, Virginia and seeking an experienced Category Manager to support strategic sourcing for our many business units.  This high energy individual will report through the Corporate Procurement organization and will regularly interact with buyers and operations at the local sites.  The successful candidate would ideally locate in Lynchburg, Virginia, but as this position will support operations across the country, the individual would have the option of locating at one of BWXT’s main sites or remotely (if needed).


Job Description/Duties:

  • Develop sourcing strategy that supports the goals of the businesses including commodity spend analytics, supply base rationalization, and supplier consolidation.
  • Prepare RFQs/RFPs, bid documents, analyzing and evaluating proposals, and administering the evaluation process.
  • Create and manage supplier agreements and monitor use of these agreements within the company.
  • Select and manage required suppliers who have the capacity and capability to meet the material and subcontract needs of the business.
  • Utilize reverse auctions for appropriate spend opportunities.
  • Maintain continuous in-depth knowledge of market conditions, industry trends, and developing technologies within assigned categories.
  • Role will engage in both strategic and tactical work.


Desired Certifications and Skillsets:

  • Certification in Supply Management/Sourcing/Procurement.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Proven ability to establish processes and analytics to measure progress against initiatives.
  • Experience with an ERP system and inventory management.
  • Experience administering a “Travel” program (Air, Vehicle and Hotel).
  • Experience in the Transportation industry (Freight, Parcel, Rail, and Ocean).
  • Proven ability to translate data into insights that support management of assigned categories.
  • Strong organizational skills including prioritizing, scheduling, and time management.
  • A reputation for influencing others and earning trust across organizations.
  • Ability to seamlessly work across functional and organizational boundaries.
  • Proven track record of delivering initiatives from conception through completion.


Job Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Must possess at least five (5) years of strategic sourcing experience.
  • Must possess at least fifteeen (15) years of general procurement experience.
  • Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Collaborative, team player with a “can-do” attitude and good listening skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
