Job Description/Duties:

 

Researches, designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs application and embededed software in  systems such as instruments, controls, robots,  electromechanical systems, controls, motors, and/or machines. Work is generally performed in a fast-paced team environment, and the ability to perform these job duties alone is required.  Requires travel to support BWXT’s field service business, which are generally performed at nuclear power plants while working in strictly controlled ionizing radiation areas.

 

•         Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of the control systems used in services product line.

•         Reviews, assesses and analyzes engineering designs and develop/define technical and design requirements with input from project personnel and the client.

•         Utilizes engineering knowledge and communication with team and users to develop specifications for products.

•         Tests tooling and systems

•         Perform remedial investigation/feasibility studies to determine and outline projects.

•         Applies integrated technical judgment, requiring use of scientific method to recognize and formulate problems.

•         Ensures work is rooted in the fundamentals of science and engineering while applying a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles.

•         Uses physical and computational simulation, analysis, and evaluation as inherent activities of development.

•         Ensures engineering work conforms to high technical and organization standards and meets or exceeds all contract requirements.

•         Ensures the predictability of designs and products.

•         Compiles and evaluates design and data to determine adequacy of the product or software and the engineering effectiveness of the results compared to requirements and specifications.

•         Ensures all products are clear, concise, and conform to regulatory/technical requirements.

•         Prepares/assists specification development for assigned projects.

•         Participates in internal reviews of system design and associated documentation.

 

Job Qualifications/ Requirements:

 

•         Candidate must have a desire to work on a fast-paced product development team

•         Expert knowledge in software development to control remote and robotic machines / tooling

•         Candidate muste be hands-on and self-motivated

•         Experience in the development of advanced coding to control custom hardware for remote / autonomous tooling.

•         Experience with C programming

•         Ability to have major impact on organizational success and productivity, with extensive latitude for independent judgment

•         Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, internal and external

•         Ownership of software technically, budget and schedule

•         Can be viewed as an expert in software development and implementation, both internally and externally

•         Proven ability to work well both in a team environment and as an individual contributor

•         Ability to obtain DOE security clearance and have unescorted access to commercial nuclear plants

•         Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science accredited institution

•         Minimum of two years' related experience

US Citizenship, with no dual citizenship is required for this position.

 

Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Position requires U.S. Citizenship with (no dual citizenship) ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test and previous employment reference verifications.
