BWXT is currently seeking a Senior Licensing Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA Advanced Technologies location!

 

BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven - be part of BWXT’s innovation hub. BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.

 

The team is seeking an experienced professional to join the Regulatory & Licensing function as a Senior Licensing Engineer. The role will act as both a senior-level subject matter expert in advanced reactor licensing subjects as well as lead the development of plans and content to support regulatory engagements on BWXT AT’s commercial reactor technology programs. This role will work closely with engineering disciplines, commercialization, business development, and project personnel to execute licensing plans for BWXT AT and our customers, ensuring regulatory requirements are identified and incorporated into our technology and projects to meet program regulatory strategies.

 

This position will be located at the Advanced Technologies office in Lynchburg, Virginia. Relocation benefits are available for this position.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Develop and implement project licensing plans for advanced reactor technology development and project delivery, primarily focused on the U.S. commercial regulatory framework. Activities may involve nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency planning, reactor design and analysis, code development and qualification, financial and environmental law, and safeguards.
  • Develop licensing and regulatory deliverables such as technical/topical reports, license application content, programs, and other products for regulatory engagement and review.
  • Develop regulatory strategies and approaches to resolve key technical and programmatic matters related to BWXT AT reactor technology development and lead their resolution.
  • Lead the development and defense of the licensing basis for one or more reactor technologies and associated customer projects.
  • Coordinate with and support development of technical design bases information across engineering disciplines, including establishment of regulatory requirements into the reactor technology.
  • Coordinate with and support development of testing programs to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Lead regulatory engagements on technical and programmatic issues in accordance with program plans.
  • Support development of budgets and schedules with Project Management teams to achieve regulatory outcomes.
  • Support communication with internal and external stakeholders on execution of licensing activities and program plans.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in nuclear licensing and regulatory matters in a U.S. regulatory framework (NRC or DOE).
  • Experience in nuclear system design, evaluation, and technology development is required.
  • Must be able to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely written and verbal communication.
  • Must be a proven team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills to coordinate multiple licensing activities simultaneously across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and/or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

 

Additional Desired Skillsets:

  • A master’s degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Subject matter expertise from previous experience in one or more disciplines (e.g., safety analysis, ASME code implementation, radiation safety, etc.).
  • Experience in advanced reactor and new nuclear project licensing subject areas.

Pay: $98,000 - $154,000

 

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $98,000 and $154,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
