BWXT is currently seeking an Operations Specialist for its Lynchburg Technology Center (LTC) location!

Responsible for supporting the Nuclear Material and Inspection Service (NMIS) at the Lynchburg Technology Center. This group consists of five discrete laboratory operations, namely, Nuclear Materials Engineering (NME), Radioisotope & Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (RACL), Nondestructive Evaluation & Inspection Systems (NDE&IS), Metallurgical Laboratory (MET), and Advanced Fuel Development (AF). This organization operates under an NRC license with radioactive facilities dealing with special nuclear material as well as by-products material. This position will assist the Operation Director handling special nuclear operation assignment.

Job Description / Duties:

The selected candidate will assist in and oversee the operation of equipment and facility for the development of manufacturing processes. Job duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to develop and document work instructions in support of targeted processes.

  • Support installation, on-site testing, and maintenance of equipment.

  • Train other operators on equipment.

  • Assist engineers to resolve technical issues and generate ideas for process improvements.

  • Review and compile data, authoring and reviewing work documents and procedures.

  • Assist engineers with change requests and Safety Evaluation Requests (SERs).

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate’s degree is preferred and may substitute for experience.

  • Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in nuclear operations.

  • Demonstrable willingness to learn new technologies and skills is required.

  • Must have prior experience in leadership role(s).

  • Must be knowledgeable in identifying and addressing safety concerns.

  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience in the following preferred:

    • Laboratory operations

    • Contamination control

    • Handling of Special Nuclear Material

    • Advanced NDE techniques

    • Nuclear facility renovation

  • ASNT/ASME certification is a plus.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

Pay: $62,000.00 - $109,000.00

 

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,000.00 and $109,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
