BWXT is looking for a Nuclear Materials Engineering Technician for its Lynchburg, VA location!  


Responsible for supporting the Nuclear Materials Engineering (NME) group located at Lynchburg Technology Center (LTC). The NME group is one of 4 discrete laboratory operations within LTC, namely, Nuclear Materials Engineering (NME), Radioisotope & Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (RACL), Nondestructive Evaluation & Inspection Systems (NDE&IS), and Metallurgical Laboratory (MET). Currently, NME is staffed by a supervisor, engineers and technicians.





BWXT, NOG Technologies, Inc. has an immediate opening for Laboratory Technician in the Nuclear Materials Engineering Group. This position will perform various laboratory functions to support the Nuclear Material Engineering Laboratories, including Failure Analysis Lab, Fatigue and Fracture Lab, Hot Cells, and Cask Handling Area. Tasks may include: working with radioactive material specimens, machining (EDM and conventional methods), mechanical testing, heat treating, and operating other analytical instruments. Job duties include operating sectioning, grinding, and polishing machines along with mixing and handling acids.




Education:  Minimum 4 years of relevant radiological experience required, or Diploma/Certificate in a related field (such as Machine Tool and Quality) and 3+ years of relevant laboratory experience. Knowledgeable in standard radiation/contamination work processes and procedures



Naval Nuclear operations and/or maintenance experience preferred. United States Navy ELT qualified preferred and RCTQS preferred. Radiologically experienced mechanics/machinists/pipefitters are encouraged to apply.


Familiar with EDM and other milling operations. Familiar with automated welding operations. Candidate trained in NAVSEA Metallographer Qualification, proficient in various metallographic operations including sample preparation, imaging and measuring will be given preference.


Must possess basic computer skills (word processing and spreadsheets), and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). Work well in a team environment.



Security Clearance: The candidate must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship and have the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
