BWX Technologies, Inc. is looking for a Production or Nuclear Materials Engineering (NME) Engineer for its Lynchburg Technology Campus (LTC) in Virginia!

 

This position is responsible for supporting the Nuclear Materials Engineering (NME) group at the Lynchburg Technology Center (LTC). This group is one of 4 discrete laboratory operations within LTC, namely, Nuclear materials Engineering (NME), Radioisotope & Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (RACL), Nondestructive Evaluation & Inspection Systems (NDE&IS), and Metallurgical Laboratory (MET). This facility operates several radioactive facilities including a failure analysis laboratory, mechanical testing laboratory, machine shop, radiochemistry laboratory, nuclear counting laboratory, metals analysis laboratory, and four fuel-handling hot cells.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Perform root cause and/or failure analysis for project-specific needs and reports results to project managers.
  • Collaborate with BWXT internal R&D, manufacturing, and integrated safety teams to mature and optimize the Chemical Vapor Infiltration (CVI) manufacturing process to produce novel fuel forms.
  • Coordinate data collection of the product’s destructive and non-destructive evaluations and present deliverables to the research team.
  • Implement process optimizations / control measures and manage daily work instructions.
  • Provides manufacturing operations support functions as the process area expert for equipment and processes.
  • Responsible for preventative / standard maintenance for assigned processing area equipment.
  • Interfaces with engineers, operators, and the customer to develop engineered solutions to troubleshoot or resolve equipment and operation problems as they arise.
  • Assist in generation and revision of area operating procedures (AOPs) and technical procedures (TPs) for the assigned processing areas.

 

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Materials, or similar discipline) is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in an engineering related field.
  • Self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to safety culture and willingness to ensure compliance to all codes and standards.
  • US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

 

Desired

  • Experience with:
    • working in a radiologically controlled environment.
    • supervising metallographic preparation / metallography.
  • Familiarity with
    • EDM, milling, and/or welding operations.
    • mechanical testing.
  • Active DOD or DOE security clearance.

Pay: $62,000 - $109,000

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,000 and $109,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
