BWX Technologies, Inc. is currently seeking a Network Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA location!

Responsibilities/duties include:

  • Ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services.
  • Plan, design, and develop local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization.
  • Participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links.
  • Evaluate and recommend new products.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies for application to the enterprise.
  • Analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.


Minimum job requirements:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
  • Ability to report to an assigned work location as scheduled. This is not a remote work opportunity.


Additional job requirements:

  • Must have solid knowledge and experience in the following:
    • Enterprise class LAN, WAN, WLAN, design and implementation.  
    • Network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
    • Network infrastructure security technologies and best practices, including, Router/Switch security(ISR/Velocloud), Firewall Management (ASA, Fortinet), protecting edge perimeter network devices, experience and understanding security logging for monitoring and incident response, wired and wireless guest design, NAC experience a plus.
    • Excellent working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and network services.(SASE, SDWAN, Cloud provider like AWS/AZURE)
    • Network management, performance monitoring, network monitoring, inventory, and backup tool software experience.
    • Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits, packet capturing, and protocol analysis experience.
    • Knowledge of enterprise class voice, video, and collaboration (Cisco CUCM, SIP, Webex and MS Teams).
    • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Successful candidate will have:
    • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment a must.
    • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
    • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
    • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
    • Strong customer service orientation.
    • Able to travel as needed, 5% - 10% typical
    • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Formal Education & Certification
    • University degree in computer science or IT related degree preferred and two (2) years equivalent work experience.
    • Certifications - CCNA or CCNP preferred.
