BWXT is currently seeking a Mechanical / Piping Designer for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.

 

BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group is currently recruiting for a Mechanical / Piping Designer for our Operations group within the Advanced Technologies organization.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Prepare new or revise P&IDs and piping Isometrics per design documentation.
  • Perform mechanical routing of piping and other components within systems using 3D CAD Solidworks.
  • Import and export files between different systems to allow for development from P&IDs to routings to Isometrics.
  • Perform detailed reviews of P&IDs and Isometrics utilizing proper piping / fittings / symbologies / proper engineering nomenclature.
  • Review and compare the native drawing files against electronic copies of the drawing files.
  • Understand and enact proper drafting requirements for safety class and security sensitive designs.
  • Consult with the appropriate responsible Engineer to understand design requirements and proposed changes.
  • Aid in CAD design of applicable individual components.
  • Create design models and detailed drawings using CAD software and other design methods.
  • Provide general support involving assembly, testing and inspection of components and systems.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma is required. An associate's degree is preferred.
  • Must possess at least eight (8) years of experience in mechanical / piping design, P&IDs, and routings. Degree may substitute for some experience.
  • Must have demonstrated experience and proficiency in Solidworks (or comparable) 3D CAD.
  • Must be knowledgeable in piping assembly techniques (Welding/ASME/AWS, Grayloc, Other fittings/etc.)
  • Knowledge of Engineered Systems & Systems Design is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a team environment to solve complex problems coupled with minimal oversight is required.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely written and verbal communication is required.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with internal customers.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Project, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
