BWXT is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!


BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven - be part of BWXT’s innovation hub. BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.


The Manufacturing Engineer will be part of a diverse and multi-discipline team working on a variety of projects including next generation reactor design, reactor component/equipment development, medical isotopes, and advanced manufacturing technology development.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Create design models and detailed drawings using CAD software and other design methods.
  • Provide engineering support involving assembly, testing and inspection of mechanical components and systems.
  • Assist in the development and qualification of advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Assist in the development and qualification of new chemical processes.
  • Support assembling prototype and production equipment.
  • Write test reports and assisting with qualification reports.
  • Support engineering procurement efforts and control of tooling.
  • Support Operations (hand tools, power tools, machining equipment, automated equipment).
  • Inspect and characterize of components.
  • Provide other engineering and manufacturing support tasks as required.


Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • An Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited university is required. Mechanical or electrical design is preferred.
  • Must possess at least two (2) years of related experience.
  • Must have demonstrable knowledge in wiring equipment panels and basic mechanical skills.
  • Must have demonstrable knowledge of CAD systems and design engineering techniques relative to the development of complex electro/mechanical tools and systems. Knowledge of robotic manipulators, automated welding, and fiber optic audio/video systems is preferred.
  • Must be able to specify procurement requirements for mechanical components.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely written and verbal communication is required.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers is required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
