BWXT is currently seeking an intern to assist with technician and engineering duties in support of a material characterization and metallographic inspection laboratory group.

Job Responsibilities:

This position requires a mix of hands-on laboratory work and administrative tasks.

• Prepare weld samples for metallographic evaluation using standard grinding and polishing techniques.
• Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment.
• Track and catalog samples.
• Manage lab supply inventories.
• <20 hours/week

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

• Must be a currently enrolled student, pursuing a degree in a technical training program related to science, engineering, or manufacturing.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.

Experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment is desired. Experience with any of the following would be beneficial, but consideration is given to all applicants with a strong desire to learn new technical skills, methods, and equipment. 

• • Metallographic sample preparation.
  • Welding.
  • Machining.
  • Microscopy.
  • Heat treatment and operation of high-temperature furnaces.
  • Mechanical aptitude and desire for hands-on learning.
