BWXT is currently seeking an Environmental Safety & Health Professional for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers. AT is seeking an Environmental Safety & Health Professional to join our team.

 

Job Description / Duties:

  • Assist with development, implementation, administration, and maintenance of EHS programs.
  • Perform code reviews to identify applicable requirements for new manufacturing process
  • Conduct facility and operations inspections, assessments, surveillances, evaluations, and program audits.
  • Evaluate operations, conditions, and activities that affect safety and regulatory compliance (including chemical, physical, biological, environmental hazards) and assist managers and staff with resolution.
  • Identify and implement operational work controls, programs, and processes to enforce compliance and safety.
  • Develop procedures that enforce compliance with regulations and permits.
  • Issue stop work orders for unsafe conditions and actions without fear of reprisal.
  • Evaluate facility modifications to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Perform Industrial Hygiene Sampling.
  • Must have the ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated surfaces such as platforms and scaffolding. 
  • Must be able to be medically qualified to wear a respirator and able to wear PPE required for a chemical/radiological work environment.
  • Coordinate and prepare EHS records, reports and other documentation related to compliance activities, requirements, and improvement needs.
  • Support work planning and control, including job walkdowns, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses.
  • Assist in identification, development, and delivery of EHS training and communication.
  • Track and collects EHS performance data required for reporting requirements and as directed.
  • Participate in facility drills and emergency events
  • Collaborate across facility departments to ensure equipment and processes are being maintained and hazardous conditions are corrected.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of EHS programs and policies and implementing corrective action.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Fire Protection, or other applicable engineering/science field.
  • Must possess at least ten (10) years of related work experience in an industrial setting.
  • Must possess working knowledge of OSHA 29CFR1910 General Industry Regulations and Standards, specifically Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection Requirements, and Industrial Hygiene Sampling Techniques, etc.
  • Must possess working knowledge of IBC, IFC, and NFPA codes related to fire protection and process evaluation.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain CPR, First Aid, and other First Responder certifications.
  • Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and successfully resolve conflict.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail, and demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with proven success as a problem solver, negotiator, facilitator, and decision maker is required.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks, with a high degree of accuracy, in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Must be able to maintain confidential/personal information and materials.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
