BWXT is currently seeking a Data Architect for our Lynchburg, VA location - Remote with Travel!
The Data Architect will be responsible for expanding the company’s use of data as a strategic enabler of corporate goals and objectives. This individual will achieve these goals by strategically designing, developing, and implementing data models for enterprise-level applications and systems. These models shall be architected at the following layers: conceptual, logical, business area, and application. The Data Architect will act as the primary advocate of data modeling methodologies and data processing best practices.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Develops and delivers long-term strategic goals for data architecture vision and standards in conjunction with data users, department managers, clients, and other key stakeholders.
- Creates short-term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management roadmap.
- Establishes processes for governing the identification, collection, and use of corporate metadata; takes steps to assure metadata accuracy and validity.
- Establishes methods and procedures for tracking data quality, completeness, redundancy, and improvement.
- Conducts data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements, feasibility studies, and other tasks.
- Creates strategies and plans for data security, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and archiving.
- Ensures that data strategies and architectures are in regulatory compliance.
- Ensures the success of enterprise-level application rollouts.
- Liaises with vendors and service providers to select the products or services that best meet company goals.
- Assesses and determines governance, stewardship, and frameworks for managing data across the organization.
- Develops and promotes data management methodologies and standards.
- Selects and implements the appropriate tools, software, applications, and systems to support data technology goals.
- Oversees the mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality.
- Collaborates with project managers and business unit leaders for all projects involving enterprise data.
- Develops and administers strategies for the use-case-specific modeling.
- Works with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Develops long-term goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field, or equivalent experience. A Master's degree can substitute for 2 years' of the required work experience.
- Minimum of ten (10) years' work experience with six (6) years' work experience in data/information architect or related roles.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Unrelenting determination and results-oriented.
- Ability to present ideas and solutions in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
- Excellent technical architecture and technical support documentation skills.
- Highly self-motivated and self-directed with keen attention to detail.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with data architecting, data mining, large-scale data modeling, and business requirements gathering/analysis.
- Direct experience in implementing enterprise data management processes, procedures, and decision support.
- Strong understanding of relational data structures, theories, principles, and practices.
- Strong familiarity with metadata management and associated processes.
- Hands-on knowledge of enterprise repository tools, data modeling tools, data mapping tools, and data profiling tools.
- Demonstrated expertise with repository creation, and data and information system life cycle methodologies.
- Highly effective time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience in gathering and analyzing business requirements.
- Understanding of Web services (SOAP, XML, UDDI, WSDL).
- Object oriented programming experience.
Pay: $85,000 - $145,000
The base salary range for this position in VA at the start of employment is expected to be between $85,000 and $145,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
