BWX Technologies, Inc. is currently seeking a Category Manager for its Lynchburg, VA location! This is a hybrid role.

 

The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing national and regional procurement strategies that enhance operational efficiency, profitability, and supplier performance. The role requires strong analytical skills, negotiation expertise, and contract management proficiency to optimize sourcing solutions, mitigate risk, and drive value creation across the organization.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Strategic Procurement Leadership:

  • Develops, plans, and implements procurement strategies to optimize operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and profitability.
  • Leads initiatives to enhance supply chain performance and ensures alignment with business goals.

Spend Analysis & Supplier Optimization:

  • Conducts comprehensive spend analytics and supplies base rationalization to drive cost savings and streamline procurement operations.
  • Identifies opportunities for supplier consolidation and strategic sourcing improvements.

Negotiation & Value Assessment:

  • Negotiates supplier contracts, pricing agreements, and service terms to maximize value and achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Defines potential value and ROI for procurement initiatives, establishes performance metrics, and tracks results to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Leverages market intelligence to drive competitive bidding and strengthen supplier negotiations.

Solicitation & Vendor Selection:

  • Prepares RFQ/RFP documents, manages solicitation processes, and oversees evaluation and selection to secure high-quality suppliers.
  • Facilitates contract discussions and ensures supplier commitments meet organizational requirements.

Supplier Agreement Management:

  • Develops, negotiates, and maintains supplier agreements, ensuring compliance, favorable terms, and effective utilization across the organization.
  • Monitors supplier performance and compliance, resolving disputes and renegotiating contracts when necessary.

Terms & Conditions and Contract Review:

  • Reviews and analyzes supplier contracts, terms, and conditions to mitigate risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and protect company interests.
  • Implements best practices for contract structuring, renewal processes, and dispute resolution.
  • Collaborates with legal and finance teams to refine contract terms and enforce adherence.

Policy & Procedure Development:

  • Establishes company-wide procurement policies, procedures, and guidelines to promote efficiency and risk management.
  • Ensures strategic sourcing practices align with industry standards and corporate objectives.

Market Intelligence & Industry Trends:

  • Maintains expertise in market conditions, emerging industry trends, and new technologies within assigned procurement categories.
  • Provides insights and recommendations to adapt sourcing strategies to evolving market dynamics.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in supply chain.
  • Strategic sourcing experience.
  • Proven ability to analyze and translate data into actionable insights to develop category strategy.
  • Proven track record of delivering initiatives from conception through completion.
  • Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Collaborative, team player with a “can-do” attitude and effective listening skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with MRO goods and supplier contracts.
  • Certification in Supply Management/Sourcing/Procurement.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Experience with SAP and inventory management.

Pay: $85,000 - $134,000

 

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $85,000 and $134,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
