Job Summary

 

The position of Training Manager is available for the N3B LLC contract in Los Alamos New Mexico. The Training Manager is responsible for analyzing strategies, programs, and processes for the effective usage of the organization’s training. Manage and ensure the timely completion of required training programs. Confer with management, teams, and employees to assess training and development needs and the effectiveness of training programs. Develop testing strategy and program implementation for training participants. Actively searches, creatively designs, and implements effective methods to educate and enhance employee development and performance. Ensures appropriate documentation and tracking of training requirements.

 

Job Description / Duties

 

  • Is accountable for the performance and results of a team within own discipline.
  • Develops and executes functional or departmental strategy to achieve key business objectives impacting the results of a core business in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Requires in-depth understanding of concepts, theories and principles in own discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines.
  • Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges.
  • Decisions are guided by company and functional strategy and objectives and also by policies, procedures, and business plan; receives guidance from manager.
  • Evaluates key business challenges; directs the development of new or innovative solutions and identifies and resolves technical, operational, and organizational problems that impact effectiveness. 
  • Applies understanding of the industry to improve effectiveness, provide guidance and influence processes and policies.
  • Impacts the level of service and the team’s ability to meet quality and timeliness objectives.
  • Manages professional employees and/or supervisors/superintendents.
  • Manages a generally homogeneous team; adapts plans and priorities to meet production and/or operational challenges.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):

 

  • Provides leadership to staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Ensures the architecture and uploading/maintenance of the learning system is in accordance with industry and government standards.
  • Implements an instructor performance and effectiveness process of training programs, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and manage training plans, procedures, and programs to meet specific company and regulatory training requirements.  Including but not limited to:
    • Ensures effective on-boarding for newly appointed employees including, but not limited to, scheduling and conducting on-the-job training and orientation meetings for newly hired employees.
    • Ensures effective training and apprenticeship programs by which the company can document the completion of individual training requirements and can validate compliance with federal, state, local, and N3B specific regulations and/or standards.
    • Accountable for the implementation of DOE Order (DOE) 426.2
    • Ensures regular and ongoing training and development needs assessments are conducted.
    • Manage and delivers training on various subjects through one-on-one, classroom setting, or other means as deemed appropriate.
    • Incorporate adult learning theories, interactive training techniques and instructional design methodology to program elements.

 

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Assess key performance indicators and establish strategic/operational plans to support organizational goals.
  • Select, train, and supervise the training staff.
  • Works closely with vendors, suppliers, and third-party educators to supplement additional training programs.
  • Interact and communicate regularly with all stakeholders about training initiatives, training statuses and upcoming training needs and levels.

 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Prior experience and knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with developing, delivering, and maintaining training activities.
  • Excellent organization and program management skills
  • Proficiency in computer-based training software, Document management software, MS Office to include but not limited to MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience in record retention and tracking of training requirements and completion is desired.
  • This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2 requirements.

Education/Certifications, Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline combined with, typically, at least 20 years' relevant experience.  Prefer 10 years of management responsibility and 3-5 years in a training field in a nuclear facility.  Relevant nuclear engineering, operations, or DOE facility experience may be substituted for training field experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

The base salary range for this position in New Mexico (US-NM) at the start of employment is expected to be between $150,000 and $227,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
