BWXT is currently seeking a Lifting & Handling Engineer for its Lynchburg, VA location!

 

Job Description/Duties:

  • Conducts Engineering evaluations of lifting, rigging, and handling practices, methods, and issues. 
  • Supports a production environment. 
  • Provides Engineering insight and support. 
  • Works with a "Safety Focus" and participates in safety awareness and improvements. 
  • Completes Engineering reviews of drawings and procedures. 
  • Interfaces with all areas and levels of the plant, vendors, and suppliers, and other BWXT facilities.
  • Assists in providing crane and rigging training. 
  • Assists shop personnel and production areas with lifting and rigging issues, questions, and technical support. 
  • Creates and updates documentation to support lifting and handling projects and issues. 
  • Implements and supports improvements, new methods, and/or standards.
  • Develops workable production devices, tools, fixtures, etc. from concepts. 
  • Mentors less experienced personnel within the group.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering is required.  Internal candidates with a Physics Degree who are already on the Engineering Ladder are also eligible. 
  • Previous industry experience, including knowledge of manufacturing processes and methods, with lifting and rigging is preferred.
  • Past or present certifications from training institutes, providers, or nationally recognized organizations relative to crane and rigging are a plus. Must be willing to recertify in NCCCO crane and rigging certification if needed. 
  • Knowledge of ASME and OSHA code relative to cranes and rigging is desired. 
  • Prior experience as a trainer in cranes, lifting, and rigging is a plus. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Must be able to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite. 

  • Working knowledge of Solumina and SAP is preferred. 

  • Ability to lead change and interface with all departments throughout a manufacturing environment. Mechanical knowledge, experience, and insight is beneficial. 

  • Previous mechanical hands-on experience is required. 

  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a rapidly changing environment is required.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multifunctional team.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with no dual citizenship.
