Position Overview:

As our Wastewater Treatment Operator at BWXT Ordnance Tennessee in Jonesborough, Tennessee (NOGJ), you will perform tasks related to the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment System and the Sanitary Sewer Treatment System.  Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of the plant operations and compliance with Local, State, and Federal Regulations.  This position requires the operator to gain a thorough working knowledge of the operation, methods, and procedures of the wastewater and sewer treatment systems, along with a thorough working knowledge of Local, State, and Federal Regulations governing wastewater and sewer treatment.

Your Day to Day as Wastewater Treatment Operator at NOGJ:

  • Perform all aspects of operating the wastewater treatment system and the sanitary sewer treatment system

 

  • Perform all aspects of sampling, monitoring, parameter checks, testing, and reporting as required to maintain compliance with Local, State, and Federal Regulations governing the wastewater and sewer treatment processes

 

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct upset conditions, including both mechanical and treatment operations

 

  • Perform checks of the treatment processes to ensure proper operation and compliance

 

  • Read, interpret and apply NPDES permit and laboratory reports

 

  • Operate and troubleshoot evaporator systema and cooling tower systems

 

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and through written communications with Local, State, and Federal personnel

 

  • Prepare and submit written reports to regulatory agencies

 

  • Be available to respond to emergency situations

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a Associate’s degree and six (6) years of directly related experience or Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in an industrial environment deemed sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this position

 

  • Waste Water Treatment certification from the State of Tennessee strongly preferred

 

  • If not currently certified, require the ability to gain a Waste Water Treatment Certification with the State of Tennessee

 

  • Experience with radioactive materials preferred

 

  • Knowledge of local, state and federal codes, regulations and procedures regarding wastewater treatment, control, and discharge of industrial waste

 

  • Principles of reporting recordkeeping, knowledge of basic computer systems and application software

 

  • Ability to operate, inspect and maintain equipment used for water treatment operations

 

  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal with others

 

  • Ability to follow and comply with safety requirements

 

  • Ability to recognize, perceive and react appropriately to situations involving health and safety or hazardous conditions

 

  • Ability to read, interpret and follow policies, procedures, instructions, codes, manuals and job-related materials

 

  • Understand basic principles of record keeping and be able to maintain and update records appropriately

 

  • Knowledge and ability to perform preventive and routine maintenance on both wastewater and sewer treatment equipment as required

 

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a forklift, tow motor or other motorized industrial equipment as required for this position

 

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) and/or Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance

 

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, west, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e., ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning, picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds.  Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner.  While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e., steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection.  Some positions may require respirator clearance up to and including the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance.  Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas.  Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the facility or between locations.  Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto.  This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

 Pay: $30.79 - $43.26

 

The starting hourly rate for this position in Tennessee (US-TN)  at the start of employment is expected to be between $30.79  and $43.26  per hour.  The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
