Position Overview:

As a Waste Technician at BWXT Ordnance Tennessee in Jonesborough, Tennessee, you will report to the Sr. Manager of Environmental Health & Safety and will perform waste processing duties including but not limited to the packaging and disposal of radiological, hazardous, and various other industrial wastes.  This position will be a night shift (2nd or 3rd) position.

Your Day to Day as Waste Technician at BWXT Ordnance Tennessee:

  • Perform waste processing and disposal of radiological, hazardous, and various other industrial wastes in compliance with all company, local, state, and federal regulations

 

  • Assist in performing test analysis of waste and wastewater to assure compliance with all regulations

 

  • Coordinate with Environmental Health & Safety, Waste, Operations, Programs and Engineering personnel to reduce waste streams, enhance industrial safety, improve ergonomic conditions, and mitigate risk.

 

  • Promote and utilize As Low As Reasonably Acceptable (ALARA) principles

 

  • Assist in conducting hazard analysis on existing and proposed processes and equipment and make recommendations for improvements

 

  • Assist in the operation of wastewater and sewage treatment facilities for the disposal of process wastewater, sewage, and non-contact wastewater in compliance with all company local, state, and federal regulations

 

  • Assist emergency response team as needed (i.e. environmental upset condition).

 

  • Perform various spill prevention activities and other duties which may be assigned

 

  • Shut down operations if immediate safety hazard is identified

 

  • Engage in direct interactions with supervisors/managers and other employees as related to EHS and Waste matters

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment

 

  • College/Advanced Courses in EHS or related field preferred

 

  • Basic knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to industrial, radiation, waste, and environmental compliance

 

  • Basic knowledge of math as required for assignment completion

 

  • Basic computer literacy, including an understanding of word processors, spreadsheets, and databases

 

  • Ability to learn manufacturing operations, their interactions and interdependencies

 

  • Effective verbal and written skills

 

  • Ability to interface with all levels of personnel and work effectively in a team environment with all levels of individuals, internally and externally

 

  • Must be able to work 2nd or 3rd shift and work weekends when required

 

  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship

 

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) and/or Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance at appropriate level

 

  • Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information

 

  • Ability to change into and out of personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering production/lab areas, including donning of a respirator

 

  • Ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, overhead crane, hoist, manlifts, etc.) in a safe manner

 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

 

  • Ability to push, pull, bend, and stoop

Pay: $54,000.00 - $82,000.00

 

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $54,000.00 and $82,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
