Position Overview:

As our Environmental, Safety and Health (EHS) Technician, you will report directly to the Sr. Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety and will perform routine duties within the EHS team including observation of personnel, processes, and operations, reporting safety concerns immediately, escalating potential safety or environment issues and will work closely with the NOGJ EHS team and teams from other departments/areas to maintain and promote a safe work environment.  This position is a night shift position (2nd or 3rd shift).

Your Day to Day as an Environmental, Safety and Health Technician:

  • Perform various forms of radiation monitoring and interpret results

 

  • Perform various forms of air and water sampling and interpret results

 

  • Ensure the proper operation of ventilation systems and monitoring equipment/process

 

  • Ensure that all personnel are properly wearing and utilizing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required for their operation or area of work

 

  • Perform personnel monitoring including but not limited to urinalysis testing, in-vivo lung counts, TLD, ring badges and various other monitoring equipment

 

  • Observe and evaluate activities and make recommendations to improve both radiological and industrial safety aspects

 

  • Promote industrial health and safety by mitigating hazards through evaluation of work activities and conditions

 

  • Promote the As Low as Reasonably Allowable (ALARA) philosophy in all operations

 

  • Assist in conducting hazard analysis on existing and proposed processes and equipment

 

  • Assist in multiple programs related to Low Level Radioactive Waste (LLRW) waste preparation and shipment, industrial hygiene, safety, and radiation programs

 

  • Assist in the coordination of spill prevention and spill response activities

 

  • Assist other EHS Technicians/Specialists as needed

 

  • Shut down operations if immediate safety hazard is identified

 

  • Engage in direct interactions with supervisors/managers and other employees as related to EHS matters

 

  • Provide and require additional protective clothing or equipment based on observations and evaluation data and require additional personnel monitoring, if necessary.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment

 

  • College or Advanced Courses in EHS field or related preferred

 

  • Basic knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to industrial, radiation, and environmental compliance

 

  • Basic knowledge of environmental, health, and safety, and/or health physics concepts and applications

 

  • Basic knowledge of math as required for assignment completion

 

  • Basic computer literacy, including an understanding of word processors, spreadsheets, and databases

 

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

 

  • Ability to learn manufacturing operations, their interactions and interdependencies

 

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interface effectively with all levels of individuals, both internally and externally

 

  • Must be able to work 2nd or 3rd shift schedule and must be able to work weekends when required

 

  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship

 

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) and/or Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance at appropriate level

 

  • Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information

 

  • Ability to function in a workplace environment involving a variety of conditions including outdoor environments, elevated structures, chemicals, and radioactive materials

 

  • Ability to perceive and react appropriately to situations involving health and safety

 

  • Ability to change into and out of personal protective equipment (PPE), including donning of a respirator

 

  • Ability to climb ladders

 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

 

  • Ability to push, pull, bend, and stoop

 Pay: $$25.96 - $$39.42

 

The starting hourly rate for this position in Tennessee (US-TN)  at the start of employment is expected to be between $$25.96  and $$39.42  per hour.  The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
