BWXT is currently seeking a Field Test Engineer for its project located at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) in Idaho Falls, ID!

BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, medical radioisotope production systems, and develops data science and advanced manufacturing techniques for leading-edge applications.

 

BWXT is seeking an experienced engineer with expertise in testing and field execution of nuclear projects to be the BWXT on site representative (Field Engineer) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) for Project Pele. The Field Engineer will represent BWXT as the design, manufacturing and testing liaison entity for reactor plant integration efforts for the fueling, operations, and test facilities at INL.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Work closely with INL stakeholders on all aspects of Project Pele including:
    • Preparation of safety analysis and licensing efforts.
    • Site layout and construction.
    • Facility interfaces.
    • Preparations and facility preparation for fueling.
    • Test program development.
    • Operations and Test procedure development.
  • Perform duties as one of the BWXT testing and operations representatives during fueling, plant assembly, plant startup, and operations/testing.
  • Work alongside INL stakeholders on a daily basis and communicate regularly with BWXT project personnel.
  • Build and foster relationships with INL stakeholders to help maintain the project on schedule and on budget.
  • Report back to the AT management team involving design, manufacturing, and testing in an effort to foster technical and programmatic information for integration success between BWXT and INL shared/congruent scope.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Electrical or similar discipline) from an ABET-accredited university is required.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of work experience in an engineering related field.
  • Must have experience with disciplined operations.
  • Must have experience working with and coordinating well with multiple intercompany organizations.
  • Must be comfortable as the voice of the organization in the leadership role in an on-site capacity.
  • Must be self-driven, motivated, and able to work effectively with minimal direction.   
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to self-direct with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

 

Additional Desired Skillsets:

  • Experience with reactor plant systems operations and testing.
  • Experience with testing on new construction reactor plant systems.
  • Experience with reactor plant startup testing including initial criticality.
  • Active DOD or DOE security clearance.
