Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Weld a variety of metals completing welding details on materials ranging from heavy machined parts to thinned wall components. Weld jigs, fixtures, special machine racks and frames, and like items.
  • Perform delicate weld operations on very expensive components and assemblies and other difficult details where specifications provide no work variation or scrap allowances.  May necessitate the adaptation of available fixtures.
  • Work from specific approved procedures, generalized oral instructions, rough sketches, or complex blueprints.  Work in close cooperation with weld engineer, weld inspector, and other authorized personnel.
  • Reads and strictly complies with weld blueprints, weld procedures, and sketches.
  • Grinding to remove slag inclusions, excessive weld, burrs, or other pre-post steps required to make an acceptable weld.
  • Must become certified to all requirements of BWXT contracts pertaining to welding, and brazing, imposed on BWXT both now and in the future.
  • Inspect all work using appropriate measurement instruments.
  • Refers all issues/problems to supervisor for disposition.
  • Completes and maintains all documentation as directed by work instructions and policies.
  • Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
  • Performs machine maintenance, housekeeping, and other duties as assigned by supervision.
  • Follows and complies with all operation instructions, work rules, and safety policies.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and consistent work hours of, on average, forty hours per work week.
  • Must have the ability to work an off shift of 3:00pm-11:00pm or 11:00pm- 7:00am.


Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • Preferred but not required, applicable US Government and customer-approved certificates for welding nuclear components. 
  • Ability to perform, pass, and maintain any welding/brazing qualifications necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
  • 2 years experience in manual and/or automatic gas tungsten arc welding.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints and interpret geometric tolerancing per ANSI Y14.5
  • Possess skills necessary to maintain accurate documentation and the ability to follow complicated procedures and document accordingly.
  • Demonstrate the use of various measuring instruments.
  • Able to read, comprehend, and communicate in English.
  • Pass all applicable written and operational examinations.
  • Meet required vision standards.
