Major Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the manager, has technical responsibility for manufacturing, quality control or subcontractor processes which must yield acceptable product.  May act as group leader for other technicians/technologists engaged in mutual technical work.  Applies intensive and diversified knowledge and practices in broad areas of assignments.  Makes independent decisions on problems and methods and represents the division in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.  This position is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the NFS Transportation/Waste Management (T/WM) programs are compliant with federal and state waste regulations. Responsible for safe and compliant transportation of radioactive and hazardous waste and product from NFS to sites nationwide.  Specific attributes include waste characterization packaging, storage, and disposition including compliance with RCRA, TSCA, NRC, and DOT. 

 

Representative Responsibilities:

1. Plans, develops, and coordinates a large and important project or a number of smaller projects.

2.  Performs complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

3.  May develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.

4.  Organizes own work and that of other technicians/technologists who may be assigned as assistants on projects.  Estimates personnel needs and schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates.

5.  Provides periodic written reports outlining work to date, problems encountered, and solutions found to be effective.

6. Performs assigned work in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy.

7.  Assists in the training of new personnel.

8.  Interface with on-site waste generators to develop solutions to technical problems associated with T&WM.

9.  Provide direction to waste generators for adherence to on-site and off-site waste acceptance criteria.

10.  Interpret laboratory analytical data and characterize material for disposal in accordance with applicable regulations and disposal/treatment facilities waste acceptance criteria.

11.  Review and approve work requests, procedures, and drawings detailing proposed process changes and determine waste characterization, packaging, storage and disposal strategies.  Waste streams included are RCRA, low level radioactive waste, mixed waste, PCB waste, and sanitary waste.

12.  Develop/revise waste characterization document.

13.  Prepare sampling and analysis plans in accordance with EPA guidance documents and SW-846.

14.  Interpret laboratory analytical data and characterize material for disposal in accordance with applicable regulations and disposal/treatment facilities waste acceptance criteria.

15.  Satisfactorily complete or maintain DOE Advanced Hazardous/Radioactive/Mixed Waste Shipper Certification.

16.  Manifest radioactive, hazardous, and mixed waste for transport.

 

Educational Requirements:

B.S. or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience Requirements

Ten (10) years related assignments.

 

Other Job Qualifications:

Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Must be a U. S. Citizen with no dual citizenship

Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Security Clearance.
 

 

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,000 and $109,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
