BWX Technologies, Inc. is currently seeking a Senior IT Systems Administrator for its Erwin, TN location!

 

The Systems Administrator role is to design, implement, and maintain information systems and technology solutions in support of the business needs. This role is also responsible for support of Windows and VMware based server hardware and software as well as associated Cisco and Dell network equipment, including general maintenance, upgrades and troubleshooting. The candidate will need the ability to troubleshoot complex problems and work under stressful conditions. The job requires the ability to work in a collaborative environment on complex projects. The person in this position will be required to remain current with new technology developments and trends and continue to grow their skills to leverage these new advances. This role requires after-hours support to handle critical issues as necessary.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Performs server design and capacity planning.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures and associated training plans for resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
  • Collaborates with IT management and department leaders to assess near and long-term capacity needs.
  • Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to server and network configuration.
  • Conducts research on IT products, services, software, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the IT industry.
  • Oversees new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Interacts with vendors and contractors as needed to secure products and services.
  • Implements and maintains server systems ensuring reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Designs, maintains, and monitors datacenter backups for all servers and SANs.
  • Administers and supports all critical production applications.
  • Provides Active Directory/DNS and Microsoft RDS support.
  • Implements and manages SAN.
  • Sets up, administers, and supports virtual server environments (VMware ESXi Server).
  • Provides hardware support for specialized engineering systems.
  • Participates in implementing system security patches and software/firmware/system upgrades.
  • Provides technical expertise and leadership to IT management and other infrastructure staff in risk assessments, implementations, and operational aspects of appropriate information security procedures and products.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree. 
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience with windows and VMware Server Administration and server hardware support.
  • Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Active Directory.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco networks.
  • In-depth knowledge of disk storage and virtualization.
  • In-depth experience with backup and recovery solutions.
  • Ability to lead critical IT infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in administration and support of data center infrastructure operations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities under general supervision.
  • Ability to organize workload for effective implementation.
  • Strong customer and results orientation.
  • Ability to function as an effective team member.
  • Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Able to conduct research into issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

Pay: $77,000 - $116,000

 

The base salary range for this position in TN at the start of employment is expected to be between $77,000 and $116,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
