Industrial Safety Specialist 3 -- Nuclear Fuel Services - Erwin, TN
Summary Description of Job:
Leads one or more of the safety program functional areas, including but not limited to, chemical safety, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, ergonomics or fire protection. Leads team evaluations of processes and activities for new or modified plant facilities, processes, systems, and components. Mentors salaried and hourly employees in aspects of industrial safety implementation and performance. Lead the development, execution, and assessment of programs to protect the health and safety of NFS employees. Serves as cognizant specialist in assigned program areas. Leads and/or participates in hazard analysis activities and champions special Industrial Safety projects and initiatives. Ensures functional program data is collected, documented, analyzed, interpreted, reported, and maintained.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of Job:
- Guide safety staff in development, execution, and assessment of programs to protect the health and safety of NFS employees.
- Assist Industrial Safety Specialist 4 with assigned routine and special management activities.
- Provides coaching and mentoring to safety staff and plant salaried and hourly employees in aspects of industrial safety implementation and performance.
- Determines impact, applicability and graded response to safety requirements and initiatives.
- Reviews proposed requirements to determine impact and proposes resolution or path forward to the Industrial Safety Manager.
- Provides occasional interface with federal, state, and local regulatory bodies with their areas of responsibility.
- Leads or supports the activities of hazard analysis teams and independently executes program elements as assigned.
- Determines potential hazards and required protective actions resulting from investigative activities, including participation in safety evaluations of processes and activities for new or modified plant facilities, processes, systems, and components.
- Participates on readiness review teams. Reviews and concurs on major and complex work requests. Supports emergency response activities as directed.
- Develops safety program functional element requirements.
- Recommends improvements or enhancements to existing programs to the Industrial Safety Manager, and as directed, implements improvements or enhancements.
- Prepares program documents and instructions, including development of new procedures or other command media as required.
- Executes safety program elements and responsibilities, as assigned, to protect the health and safety of NFS employees.
- Prepares permits, performs pre-job walk downs and hazard analyses, provides equipment, and performs testing, monitoring, and oversight.
- Collects and compiles data into a usable form, performs routine analysis and interpretation, and takes appropriate actions based upon data indications.
- Reports results to Industrial Safety management.
- Implements required safety training and qualification programs for NFS employees.
Educational Requirements of Job:
- B. S. -- Hygiene, Safety, Engineering, Science or other degree as deemed appropriate by the Industrial Safety Manager OR equivalent experience acceptable with at least two years' relevant experience for each year college (i.e. eight years' experience in lieu of a degree) or is a Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist.
Experience Requirements (Beyond educational or equivalent):
- With a B. S. degree six (6) to eight (8) years' experience in industrial safety disciplines sufficient to demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge to plant situations and requirements. With a M. S. degree three (3) to five (5) years' experience in industrial safety disciplines sufficient to demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge to plant situations and requirements.
Pay: $$77,000.00 - $$112,000.00
The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $$77,000.00 and $$112,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
