Health Physicist Senior - Nuclear Fuel Services - Erwin, TN


Summary Description of Job:


Senior oversight for radiological control programs, integration with other safety disciplines, and implementation through inter-department interfaces during routine operations, upset conditions, and new business initiatives.


Major Duties & Responsibilities of Job:


  • Mentors Health Physicists in developing technical expertise, applies mastery of health physics to challenges in industrial, environmental, and nuclear criticality safety tasks, participates in project teams with multi-disciplinary safety expertise.
  • Leads major investigations, inspections, audits, and technical evaluations.
  • Champions initiatives and represents NFS safety to senior management, external industry, and regulatory personnel. 
  • Serves as point of contact with regulatory agencies.
  • Develops technical direction in accordance with industry best practices and regulatory guidance, in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria.
  • Resolves complex problems where analysis of data or situations require an in-depth evaluation of technical, social, economic, and political factors.
  • Works independent of supervision in leading task groups on major projects, investigations, and assignments.
  • Develops technical guidance for integrated safety programs to include technical basis documents, regulatory permits, and license requirements in support of plant operations.




  • B. S. -- Science or Engineering OR in lieu of B. S. degree eight (8) years of experience in radiation safety OR
  • M. S. -- Science or Engineering OR
  • Ph.D. -- Science or Engineering


Experience (Beyond educational or equivalent requirements): 


  • With B. S. degree, fourteen (14) years' experience in radiation safety is required to demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge to plant situations and requirements or without B.S. degree twenty-two (22) years' experience in radiation safety.
  • With M. S. degree twelve (12) years' experience in radiation safety is required to demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge to plant situations and requirements.
  • With Ph.D. degree ten (10) years or less in radiation safety is required to demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge to plant situations and requirements.
