Environmental Scientist  -- Nuclear Fuel Services - Erwin, TN

 

Summary Description of Job:

 

Provides authoritative regulatory interpretation and guidance within the professional discipline and is knowledgeable of the multi-disciplinary functions (i.e. RCRA, air, water quality, groundwater, etc.) essential to achieving and maintaining project/program goals and objectives.  This position requires strong communication and organizational skills.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities of Job:

 

  • Skilled and effective in the design, implementation and operations of safety and environmental and operation of safety and environmental program elements and project activities including various state, EPA, and NRC regulatory guidance; comprehends the breadth of program/project requirements and the bases for requirements.
  • Proficient in assessing program/project efficiency and effectiveness; recognizes factors critical to success and initiates actions to improve quality and performance.
  • Provides leadership and authoritative interpretation and guidance to safety and environmental staff; identifies, defines, and resolves problem issues; promotes teamwork, cooperation and the professional development of staff.
  • Assists management in developing technical and regulatory approaches to program/project work scopes, and defining strategies for achieving goals and objectives.
  • Interprets and/or supervises the interpretation of safety and environmental data, and prepares and/or supervises the preparation of work plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Performs and/or supervises the performance of safety and environmental assessments to determine or predict the fate, transport, and effects of environmental contaminants.
  • Design systems and/or defines design criteria for environmental remediation and decommissioning efforts.  Monitors performance of remedial efforts and recommends improvements.
  • Control costs and schedule for assigned areas of responsibility; effectively communicates status to management.

 

Educational Requirements of Job:

 

B. S.  -- Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science or related degree with an additional two years' experience.

 

Experience Requirements (Beyond educational or equivalent):

 

With a B. S. degree nine (9) to ten (10) years' experience.  Post graduate studies may substitute for some work experience.
