Environmental Protection & Industrial Safety Section Manager -- Nuclear Fuel Services - Erwin, TN


Summary Description of Job:


Responsible for management and direction of personnel and programs relating to environmental safety, industrial safety, emergency preparedness, medical & wellness, and environmental decommissioning at the NFS-Erwin facility.  Develops, coordinates, and implements programs to ensure the safety of the employees, facility, public, and environment.  Directs activities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and occupational safety regulations.


Major Duties and Responsibilities of Job:


  • Is accountable for the performance and results of the following diverse disciplines:  environmental safety, industrial safety, emergency preparedness, medical & wellness, and environmental decommissioning; and provides leadership and direction through managers of those disciplines.
  • Develops and executes Environmental Protection & Industrial Safety (EP&IS) function and Safety Department strategies to achieve key business objectives impacting the results of the NFS-Erwin core businesses.
  • Applies extensive and in-depth EP&IS function, business, industry, and leadership expertise to evaluate key business challenges and directs the development of new or innovative solutions.
  • Has extensive and practical expertise in licensing and regulatory requirements, interfaces with and provides assistance to NRC/EPA and other regulatory personnel, and provides expert regulatory guidance to site personnel.
  • Serves as the primary resource to the facility concerning all matters relating to environmental protection, occupational safety, emergency preparedness, medical, and fitness for duty.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of the EP&IS function, business, and commercial expertise to differentiate itself from competition.
  • Serves as a Safety Representative and/or Chairperson on the NFS Safety Review Committee.
  • Serves as the Safety Representative and/or an Emergency Control Director (ECD) on the Emergency Response Organization (ERO).



Educational Requirements of Job:


  • B.S./B.A. -- Engineering or Physical Science


Experience Requirements (Beyond educational or equivalent):


  • With a B. S. degree over ten (10+) years' experience.  Previous experience with regulatory requirements and various regulatory agencies is required (preferably NRC).  This can include experience in the nuclear/environmental field involving areas such as licensing, permitting, regulatory compliance, safety basis, or directly-related experience in highly-regulated business.  20+ years of total experience.
